Saturday, I had the opportunity to wear colonial costume for the first time, and I parked myself in the Lord Mayor's Tenement for the day, "tidying," talking with visitors, and even creating a little sewing project for myself, completely from scratch. Not bad for someone who has only sewn on a few buttons in her entire life! I have to say that sitting on the front step, sewing in the sun, shaking out linens, and even sweeping, I was enjoying myself so much. It was a nice break from research, and my favorite part of this job is still talking with people. Then my family came to visit, to see where I work for the summer, and I gave them an extended tour....hopefully not a boring one! On Friday, I gave 3 tours and another one Saturday morning, so my interpretation skills are definitely being honed, and I sort of have my "groove" in what I talk about in the presentation.
I just can't believe I only have 2 1/2 weeks left. I really am going to be sad to leave London Town, and also my cousins. They have been so good to me...like today, for my birthday, they gave me a nutmeg grinder and a jar of whole nutmegs!!! I've only been living here 5 weeks, and we've become such good friends.
Well, anyway, this week I get to dress up again and learn how to do some hearth cooking. I still can't complain.
