Carpenter's Shop

Today, as I was walking from the William Brown house to the new visitor's center, I looked at the historic area and suddenly realized that the second wall of the carpenter's shop had been raised!  It's so exciting to be able to watch the reconstruction process...and even help with it!  I had the opportunity to partially saw a large piece of timber that will be used as a cross-beam in the shop.  It was a 2-person saw, and the timber was laying across 2 trestles about 10-12 feet off the ground; I was on the bottom, guiding the saw in an arc shape.  Then I helped bring the two pieces down from the trestle.  It was very hard work, though I only did it briefly, but now I can say that I helped build the shop.  The structure will be completed 18-24 months from now, since the carpenter only comes intermittently.  And because of that timeline, my project regarding the carpenter's shop furnishing plan has been placed on the back burner.  But I have been taking notes on the probate inventories, so at least there will be a resource once the furnishing plan becomes a higher priority.
