New places popping up out of nowhere reminded Saga -- in an odd sort of way -- of his own previous knack for warping dimensions. But since it seemed to be the natural way of things in this odd place ... game ... whatever, why not investigate?
Time to approach the Quest Kiosk ~!
"This is ... mm, still rather new to me. May I ask for the basic rundown of how these quests work?"
"I know I can access the information readily enough, but I want to inquire."
Kain put his feet down to lean forward and glanced up, waving a hand dismissively. He was nothing if not tired, and tired GMs tended to be irritable.
"What's difficult to understand? We give you a mission and area words, you go complete it and warp there the same way you got here, by that big glowing ring. It isn't rocket science. If you're new, it'd be best if you found a few others in your level range to help you out. We don't do corpse cleanup."
Amused Saga is amused ~ some things, it seems, never change, whether back in Sanctuary or in a place like this. It's almost a comfort; or it would be, if it weren't even more entertaining.
Kain might be a little sideswiped by the quiet chuckle that answers his snappish explanation.
"Death doesn't bother me terribly much at this point."
"That's a straightforward enough explanation, thank you; if you would be so kind as to supply said mission and keywords?"
He didn't mind the laughing; in fact, he smirked in reply. Not such a weakling, this one. About time.
"The mission is to help stock the town's market. Since you're a new Player, you'll get the fruit list here," and he handed him one of the handwritten checklists, "and go to Θ Sacred Sunshine's Weed Eater. You'll find the fruits you need by breaking pots and boxes in the field, and as drops from monsters you kill. Then you just come back here, show me the list which automatically checks itself on the items you get, and I fork over the prize."
And while he wouldn't give specific encouragement, he hoped the new player would opt for filling most of his list by breaking the pots first. The area level was five and the monsters would probably be too much, if he were as new as he seemed.
Glancing over the list, Saga nodded. Having options to hunt up the required items without immediately defaulting to combat was an added bonus; aside from the little problem of level, he'd prefer the non-hostile route in any case.
With another little chuckle, he waved and turned away -- time to switch locations, if not find a partner first.
And there's another Player sitting on the steps leading to the Chaos Gate, dressed in dark blue leather pants and coat, with silver accents and a baggy newsboy cap. He has a list in his hand as well, and when Saga approached, he looked up and gave him a light smile.
"The new town's nice, isn't it?"
Although it's simply a conversation attempt, he'd be more than willing to help out anyone in need of a party member. The list in his hand is for item gathering, but company was nice and Miss Amaterasu didn't seem to be around.
"It is indeed, though I've not so terribly much of an experience with the first yet --!"
With a bit of a chuckle in his voice, Saga smiled back as he responded; it was definitely a pleasant change to be able to be friendly and not expect the Holy War to come crashing down at any moment.
The quiet in his head was also pleasant, but there was no need to dwell on that little problem any longer.
"Oh, are you new here? I suppose so, since I've never seen you around."
There's a glance to the other man's list, and he noted briefly that it was for fruits, instead of items.
"Ah, yes. I'm afraid I don't know what to do with myself if I don't keep busy, hahaha. I'm used to traveling, where I came from. My name is Gauche Suede. I hope I'm not the first to welcome you to The World."
At that he stood, brushing off the seat of his pants and stepping down the stairs, offering a hand to the newcomer. It seemed he had a knack for running into the newer Players and having to break the bad news to them.
"It's nice to meet you then, Saga. And it's not rude at all; yes, there's events at least a couple times a month or so. They're often a bit strange, but so far there's been no ill intent from the GMs. There were a few..."
He trailed off, looking to the side as his brows furrowed. After a moment of thinking, he seemed to settle on how to word his answer. "Darker events, but they didn't seem to be by the GMs. There were oddities in them, and many people seemed to fall into a comatose state. But we're-- they're all fine. Have you been able to make your way around all right?"
"Mmn ... I think that I've been managing. Nothing untoward has happened that I'm aware of, at the least; unless one counts my arrival, of course, but odd arrivals seem to be the norm here?"
No sense mentioning the should-be-dead aspect of that arrival, really. Clearly the gods must have decided to start him anew, and it was better to move ahead if that were the case.
But that didn't mean he missed the small shift in Gauche's reference-point. Looking concerned, Saga began to extend a hand towards him.
"Are you sure you're alright after whatever happened?"
"I'm glad to hear that. And yes, I suppose they are indeed. You were able to work your device all right?" Asked simply because no such technology had existed in his world, and if he could offer any assistance he'd be happy to help.
Gauche tilted his head then, thinking for a moment why Saga had asked and replaying what he'd said himself before his lips part, about to speak, and then closed them. Another moment, and he replied. "Ah, my apologies. But yes, I in fact don't remember much of what happened, and I woke up as though I'd simply gone to sleep for the evening.
Concerned Saga is still concerned; but he was also willing to take Gauche at his word. There was no reason not to, after all, and before too long a little smile was creeping back again.
"Device ... the relic? Yes, after a little experimentation. There happens to be somewhat similar technology in the universe I've arrived from, but I have no experience with it myself."
The smile turned just a little sheepish.
"If you do expect to be questing, would it trouble you terribly if I accompanied you? It's been a long time since I was a ... hm, a student as it were."
The letter bee nodded, quite certain, and a small smile curved his lips. "I'm afraid it took me a good while longer, so you have the upper hand on me there. We had nothing like this where I came from, haha."
And his smile widened, with a welcoming gesture of his hand, palm-up. "Not at all! Company is always pleasant on quests. I'll be more than happy to help, although I'm afraid I'm a much higher... 'level', I guess. It won't do any good if I fight alongside you. Which list do you have?"
Relaxing, Saga bowed his head in more formal greeting and smiled back; much better to hear something pleasant. And, in its own odd way, familiar.
With a rumbling little chuckle, he offered Gauche his list.
"I would be happy enough with your company -- and I understand completely about being unable to join a battle. The youngsters need to fight on their own, or they won't learn ~"
The letter bee took the list with a gloved hand and glanced over it, then smiled and handed it back. It was different from his, of course, and he was quite sure it had something to do with their levels. It tended to be how the GMs worked, anyway.
"The fruit list, then. I have the item list. I wonder if we can gather the items together for one and it'll count for both of us...? I suppose it doesn't hurt to try, haha. I'll do what I can to assist, though."

Spotting Gauche's list, Saga held up his own.
"You've also taken up questing today?"

Accepting the offered hand, he chuckled ruefully and shook his head.
"Saga, or Gemini Saga; it's a pleasure. And no, you were not the first, though the first I encountered here likely were not here much longer than I."
"How do you 'keep yourself busy' here, if it's not too rude to ask? Are quests like these common?"
