Moving Back + my 2nd Fresher's Week So Far

Sep 19, 2012 10:52

I'll just begin by saying that I'm hung over to high heaven.

The reasons for this will be explained, but I'll first note what's been going on in my life since moving back here.
My room is on the top floor of a block for returning students, so we're all at least in our second year. I get a view that, according to James, some halls pay extra for. I can see right down across town and over Haldon, so I'm not complaining. I have a single bed which is totally fine, but I needed en-suite which is exactly what I got.
Saturday: Moving in day. I got the key to my room and got everything unpacked, and was organised enough to get all the boxes and the foot locker I used to bring everything, sent back home so it didn't clutter my room. After Father helped me bring it all upstairs, Mother came along and took me to the big Tesco to get food supplies to keep me going for a bit. Then when she left for home, James came round for the housewarming. I managed to trip the circuits making him some tea so we were without power for a couple of hours until it was fixed, but we coped. Then we just got wasted of JD and Coke and gin and tonic and (tried) to watch Saw 3, a choice inspired by lyrics from a song I cooked up and sung to James. Didn't get to sleep until gone 3.
Sunday: Spent a lazy morning and afternoon just drawing, and I begun to watch the DVD of South Park that James lent me the night before. Made a trip to town to get some things I still needed for various reasons. Ollie had his first drum set of the term that night, and I had to go. No, I mean I had to. While I like to support him as a friend, I wouldn't miss his drumming for the world. He's seriously amazing, and wonderfully creative with quite an array of electronic kit with song medleys loaded on and special effects, and a little 'trick' stuff in there too. He played for an hour, but I could listen to it all day. Afterwards myself and the members of the Campus Bands committee got pizza in Old Firehouse. Whenever that happens we all put in £5 and get four or five pizzas between us, and we get 2/3 of a pizza each, and everyone's fine to share the table.
It was a strange experience for someone with my views on gender equality. I know those guys through Ollie (who I initially came to know through almost moving in with him this year), and I was the only female at the table. But nobody there spoke to me any different from the next person. It made me wonder, if I need to rethink some things, because, apparently, it is possible for me to be treated like a human being. I tend to think that it's got something to do with everybody at the table is taking physics or maths or bioscience or something hardcore like that, so it's a highly intelligent group. Add to that the shared passion of music, I just don't think anyone there is underestimated just for their gender. Either way, it was a great night. I didn't drink much because I ate, and got to bed around 1.
Monday: A lazy day just to recoup, and also there was nothing I really felt to do. I just stayed in and watched the rest of South Park and a couple hours more Sailor Moon and drew. I finally got around to watching Ju-On: The Grudge - something I'd wanted to see for a while considering the American remake is one of the films I put on to relax and get me to sleep (odd considering I almost shat myself when I first saw it). While I was already going to have a decent grasp of what was happening, I was still a little confused, and just not scared like when I first saw the remake. But then a long time has passed, so I wouldn't be. I guess some people will end up preferring a remake, and I'm one of them. Got to bed around 11.
Tuesday: Watched a little more Sailor Moon and tried to draw a scene from my book, manga style. The result was something achingly, heartbreakingly romantic. And to top it off, I added mood music while I went over the drawing in pen. When it's finished, I'll post it here because I'm extremely proud of it, especially since I'm still a novice at manga drawing. I prefer to draw my characters in that style, first to practice and get better, and secondly because it provides guidelines and rules for how some things must be drawn, making my characters and their surroundings more accurate and true to life. My dragons are, ultimately, drawn from a slightly altered method for drawing people. The same basic shape is there, you just get to be a bit more creative and have loads of fun.
Then I went to the white T-shirt social for the bio society. Since it was a blast last year, it was something I couldn't miss. I ended up tagging along with a couple of incredibly fun 1st years, and seeing some 2nd years from my lectures for the first time since June. I don't know how much I spent, but I drank a double gin/lemonade, then a pitcher of Blue Lagoon, then an Applebomb (is that a real thing? They didn't have Cherry Sourz so we had Apple instead), then... oh god, what else... Corona, then double malibu. Oh yeah, and a shot of Drambuie. Just because I like the name. Needless to say I deserve my hangover. The night began in the student pub, then we ventured into town and ended the night at EX4, which I enjoy for it has a pole. Fixed, so if you go upside down you don't think 'OHEMGEE I'M GONNA DIE'. And despite being in jeans, and being terribly out of practice, I showed 'em all how it's done (and lost a couple of Kandi bracelets in the process).
Today: Woke at about half past 9 feeling like death. After a ravenous helping of scotch eggs and water, along with writing for what seems to be for ever, I feel I may be past the 'safe' point, where I can be confident that I won't still puke everywhere. Usually, the safe point for me is 2PM, but it probably depends on how fast one gets the calories and carbs they are craving so desperately, and when they wake. At least I didn't puke...
That is just the beginning. I've got so much more to do, and try, and after that, I'll be starting lectures again. My plan is to keep painstakingly organised from the off, and I have a folder for each module this term. Also, I have my very first holepunch, something I've always seemed to be in desperate need of. Now I have no excuse to not file everything away.

sailor moon, boys, movies, old firehouse, drunk, work, south park, art, music, friends, university, drinking, gigs
