Neil Armstrong

I don't watch much television, and I made a decision to keep my work computer off this weekend, so I get the feeling I'm probably among the last to learn of the passing of Neil Armstrong, whose first steps on the moon made all of us back home on this mudball stand up a little straighter as a species ( Read more... )

In our science class we teach about moon exploration. One of the standard test questions is "Who was the first man on the moon?"

The poor confused kids give all kinds of answers like: Lance Armstron, Neil Armstrong, and--one of my favorites--Louis Armstrong.

This week would be especially challenging for them-- both Lance and Neil are in the paper!

Lance's noteworthiness is a little less admirable. And perhaps Neil will become known for Lance's doping!

I guess that'd be "alleged" doping, since bicyclist Armstrong never failed any of the over 500 blood or urine analyses he was subjected to over the years.

As I understand it, the principal "evidence" against Lance Armstrong is hearsay from other competitors, who-besides potentially earning brownie points of their own with the USADA-are basically showing the whole system of blood and urine testing to be a completely meaningless exercise (with the USADA's blessing, apparently).

Cheers...

P.S. Unfortunately, I can understand why today's kids would be confused with Lance vs Neil. But Louis? Who the heck among them would know Louis Armstrong from a fire plug?

I was going to say that Louis has a better voice.

But does he?

Вечная память...
Совсем недавно я думал о нём и смотрел его интервью.
