Stopping by the Home Depot, the Pakistani/Liberian market, and the Lowe's, I finally got a lot of the stuff so I can get my garden ready.
Several things need never be replaced, as they come up every year: Dill, Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme, and Strawberry. The strawberry plant is particularly annoying: It grows huge and lush, and the second before any fruits start to ripen, they're stolen by squirrels, skunks, possums. But the blueberry tree is showing leaves, so I'm hopeful.
Tomorrow when I come home from dropping my uncle off at the train station, I'll plant what I bought today: Cherry tomatoes, cayenne peppers, tabasco peppers, habanero peppers (you sense a theme?), sweet basil, purple leafy basil, and, in an interesting departure, stevia. I figure I'll try it. I'll also see if I can pot the grape tree I bought on a whim, as it was 75% off at the Lowe's. Plus, I'll seed the Mammoth Russian sunflower.
I still need to buy jalapeno peppers, sage, parsley, and mint--and probably another sweet basil plant--but this is a start.
I'll also re-border all the plant-holes and the garden proper with the two huge bags of white marble chips I bought.
Total price so far: Twenty-eight bucks. Not bad.
Of course, I really can't put a price on the enjoyment I get out of using stuff from my little postage-stamp garden.
