Rockin' it
So I finally got my results from retaking the CASA examination at the end of the year. And I rocked that shit! In spite of barely sleeping the night before! I got a perfect 30/30 on listening, 25/30 on writing(I didn't proofread. It was the last test, and I'd just sort of checked out. I probably could have gotten a few more points if I'd bothered), and 38/40 on reading, for a grand asskicking total of 93/100! I'm not so much gloating as saying that I hated that stupid test, and I finally showed it what-for. It won't be coming 'round here no more, I can tell you that much.
UPDATE: I got my original entrance exam score, and apparently it was 82, with most of the improvement in listening and writing. I think that's kind of interesting, because I think I'm a lot better at listening than I used to be, even in standard Arabic, in spite of not really focusing on it that much. I just think living abroad and interacting with people(even if it was just in colloquial) really helped.
I also got my result for my oral exam, but it kind of confuses me - I'm listed as having a "3 H" on this scale that goes from 0-5(5 being a native speaker). However, there's no such thing as an H on any definition I've ever seen for the scale, which leads me to assume that it might mean "high" which is usually indicated with a +. A 3+ is a pretty respectable score, more than adequate for any sort of translation work. In order to get a job as a professor, I'll probably need 4(or 4+)(which is considered "near native speaker" and often seen as the highest non-native speakers are able to attain. 5 would be native speaker or indistinguishable from native speaker), but the difference between the two is pretty large.
Anyway, it's nice to have some sort of generally meaningless validation of my linguistic awesomeness. Now if only I could get my gender agreement consistent...
