Concepts and junk
More random drawings and random info!
Seeing as Luca and Phe have to change clothes for the next scenes, and seeing as I never decided on what clothes they wear (outside of uniforms) I had to do some concept art. This quickly devolved into me drawing whatever the hell I wanted, this is what we in the business* call "discipline."
Some Luca clothes, informal Stalinesque kittyface :3 and pre-emperor designs:
And some crap Phe clothes that I hate because I don't know anything about dresses. Rana's in there too.
Then I attempted random Pasori faces to run around in the bg and be credible:
I hate these, all my faces start looking the same at some point. Granted I need to cartoonify some of them still but I keep falling into a generic-look rut. Though some of the features are specific to their culture and I have to keep them in... anyways, I then decided I wanted to try designing the minister of propaganda guy who will show up in the second Luca part. Problem is that he's sort of big (I decided to head in the opposite direction of the Goebbels look) and I can't draw fat people. I can't decide if I should draw a fat face and add the features or draw a regular face and add the fat... also the lack of neck/ presence of wattle really trips me up. He's supposed to have a sinisterly jolly face, which I absolutely can't pull off. Sucks up the wazoo.
Thankfully I have some time to figure this out before he appears in an important context in the comic.
Last, some Pasori clothing to amuse myself. Totally unimportant to the comic since they won't show up at all except in tiny flashbacks. Luca's uncle Duvida gets to model because I like drawing his facial hair. Duvida is based on this postdoc I know (below) because his hair was/ is tremendously amazing to me.
See what I mean?? I just had to steal it.
Luca's clan, the Pasori Gulo, live way up north and wear really heavy clothing. That funny little side belt thing and the general design of their clothes were based off of Mongolian nomadic clothing, the fur and use of skins/ sinew and such is northern Native American. 'Now isn't that special?' as Jay-Z's mom would say. Their other features like darker skin/ compact body plan/ weird nose shape are a mix of cultures that I also stole from. He's wearing Luca's future gloves, BTW. Kasini belongs to Pasori Hemyo, but the same basic design applies.
