1. how much time do you spend on the internet a day? Um, I almost don't want to know the real answer to this. We'll say 3 hours.
2. of this time, how much do you think is devoted to school/work as opposed to recreational usage? 1-1.5 hours
3. which online recreational activities do you participate in? mostly it just provides me with other ways of keeping in contact with my friends and family -- e-mail, facebook, skype, blogging, twitter, the occasional student/European travel forum
4. how much would you say you use your cell phone? I don't think I use it all that much but I feel naked without it.
5. how much of your usage is texting and how much is calling? Most of my usage is texting because I have a pay-as-you-go plan in which texting is usually cheaper.
6. do you ever use the internet recreationally or check your cell phone during time allotted for class and/or work? please explain. The only time my cell phone is ever switched off is when I'm in class. I don't even turn it off when I sleep. I have been known to access the internet in class (I take notes by laptop) but only if a) I'm looking up a fact or figure that the lecturer can't remember or that I want to be able to quote specifically in discussion, or b) the lecturer has no idea what he/she is doing and I don't feel obliged to listen. But even in the worst college course I ever took, I spent most of my internet time on JSTOR looking up journal articles about the Shakespeare plays that my professor's 'interpretation' was mangling for me. I wanted *some* kind of knowledge of Shakespeare!
7. if your technology shorted out tomorrow, what would your feelings be and how would you deal with it? Oh god, I'd freak out, mostly because it would make it basically impossible for me to talk with my family. I'd be pretty angry for a while but I think that access to forms of electronic communication would affect me more than the loss of, say, television or microwaves.
