Goong promo post : The beauty of colours

Oct 31, 2006 19:46

It seems like I was watching Korean drama "Goong" for a long period of time. It feels like there will be time when I will remember October 2006 and think "I was watching Goong". And a lovely watching it was indeed!

+ Now I am going to start with "When I was a wee girl". Ok, when I was a wee girl Cinderella was my favourite fairy tale. I grew up and watched different versions of it, but I never got tired of it. SO when I heard that Korean drama "Goong" (or "Princess Hours") is the modern-day version of the timeless tale I was ready to like it even before I watched the first episode.

+ When I started watching I fell in love with the main hero and the main heroine. I adore Chae-gyung because she is so independent, sparkly, kind and funny. I love Shin because he is reserved and arrogant and proud but uses "you brought my heart out of it's hidden cave" expressions. And also he had some very hard time growing up, some unresolved issues his parents left him with. And because I view both of CG and Shin from a slightly maternal angle, I just wanted to hug Shin to death half of the time.

+ I found "Goong" to be very interesting culturally. I was eager to know about the traditions of the Korean Royal family, the laws of the palace, Korean poetry, sculpture and painting. All these topics were raised in one form or another in "Goong". So if you are interested in things like this, it is very worthy to check out!

+ But apart from all this, I fell in love with the cinematography and the costumes. I have seen many lavish BBC dramas, but nothing yet impressed me as much as the costumes in "Goong". Truly, they are an integral part of this manga adaptation.

Costumes in Goong. Photo essay. Come and see the beauty of period costumes! ( And some doubtful designer decisions too). I tried to keep it spoiler-free

Part 1: Ladies costumes: period beauty and designer style

Aww! The beauty of the court costumes are beyond my words. This little hat is just so beautiful and wonderfully detailed!

Chae-gyung 's wedding dress. Oh my poor heart ! Imagine how many hours it takes to make something like this!

Some more of lovely period dresses. I also loved when CG was wearing the plats, they are so cute!

GREEN BOLERO! My eyes lit up when I saw this. This is my favourite shade of green. ** sigh **. And what a lovely haircut!

Chae-gyung had a lovely designer outfit (complete with the different set of jewellery) in every scene

I loved her in these dorky goggles and helmet, this is the REAL Chae-gyung.

Yep. I wish I had an outfit like this :)

I am very very fond of this yellow thingy:)

And this dress! This is the entrance hall of the colledge, BTW :)

But this is THE WINNER! This is the dress which CG was wearing when Shin's eyes told her for the first time: You are so gorgeous!

Part 2: Gentlemen's costumes: This is where it all is becoming dubious

Everything hasn't started too badly and in some early episode Shin was wearing a polo-neck of my favourite shade of blue.

And this is the thing with the period costumes - everybody just looks so good in them!

And Shin does look very good, especially when in angst.

This is the only piece of period garments I wasn't so sure about: the wedding hat. But CG has already agreed to marry him , so it is all right.

Someone from dorama_chat told me (I am so sorry, I forgot who it was) that the main lead Joo Ji Hoon is famous for modeling suits. Yep, I can see this! But anyway, a tailored suit suits everybody.

And Shin certainly does look rather elegant in suits. Note the polka-dot tie. Hmm? Or just enough to cut the dash?

Yep. I like suits :)

Here is where everything starts to go awry. ** cough cough ** I have a jumper of that exact colour of pink

Later on the designer is bringing in some polka dot outfits! ** Stares in disbelif ** Though at this point of time they are manly in colour.

And these pink trousers definitely have some flowery embroidery.

Yep. PINK outfit with POLKA DOTS!! The designer is definitely on some kind of medication.

But this is truly the worst of the worst. I don't have any comments, apart from: Thanks goodness, it is not Shin , but the runner-up Yul

This is for catdecember and dangermousie: Atrocious denim shorts. I confess to having ones exactly like them. :)

doramas, kdrama, goong
