Turf, Chapter 5

"So you fell for a lesbian, you're not the first guy to do it you know." Mac was trying to be sympathetic as her partner, and best friend, paced around her hotel room, but it was really hard considering how funny the situation was.

"You knew didn't you?" Harm turned towards her as she tried to fight her smile and pointed an accusing finger.

"I heard them talking last night and confirmed it today by asking Detective Stabler."

"He knew? He practically gave me the go ahead to ask her out! Oh God."

Mac couldn't hold it in anymore and burst out laughing. "Of course he knew, they've been together for over three years, and technically he just told you she didn’t have a boyfriend."

Harm could do nothing except glare at her. He was so embarrassed, and this wasn't helping opinion of ADA Cabot any either. Once Mac collected herself she looked over at her partner who had plopped down next to her on the bed; she quirked her head as she gazed at him.

"You're homophobic!" She let out, a look of shock crossing her face.

"I am not!" He sounded affronted but there was a slight hesitation to his denial.

"Yes you are. The great Harmon Rabb Jr. is a homophobe. Why else would this bother you so much?"

"I am not homophobic," he grumbled back, arms crossed over his chest.

"Uh huh."

-----

"So, what did your mother have to say?" Olivia walked out of the bathroom towel drying her face and looked up at Alex resting on the bed.

"Oh, the usual," Alex replied as she placed the novel she was reading in her lap. "When are you going to get your life together? You know you could find a really nice husband. I have this friend with a single son. You're sister met a really nice young man and is very happy, why can't you be more like her?"

Liv came to sit on the bed next to her, "I'm sorry sweetheart."

'It's just that, she seemed fine with it for a while, even when I told her we were moving in together she said that as long as I was happy she was happy for me, but then she just changed. I don't understand it." She let out a very unladylike puff of air and growled as her head leaned back to hit the headboard. "So, how did the good Commander take the news?"

Olivia let a small smile grace her lips, "he was very quiet all night. He couldn't bring himself to look me in the eyes. I kinda feel sorry for him."

Alex couldn’t help but laugh, "He'll get over it I promise."

Olivia just grunted as she stood back up.

-----

Mac sat on the couch in the ADA's office looking over the case notes; she let her gaze wander to the blonde woman sitting next to her, feet propped on the table, "We know he did it, but that won't help us unless we can prove it."

"He left no DNA, we have no witnesses, or murder weapon, we sort of have a motive and he said everything he could short of confessing. Welcome to the SVU."

"Hello ladies." The women looked up to see a grinning Olivia leaning against the door jam.

"And why do you look like the cat that ate the canary?" Alex teased.

"Oh nothing really, we just happened to stumble across the golden nail for Petty Officer Walsh's coffin."

Both Alex and Mac perked up and Alex stared at her girlfriend, a smile forming across her face, "and that would be?"

"Let's just call it a smoking gun."

"Olivia please stop with the clichés."

"You’re the one that started it."

"I know, I'm sorry. Now tell us what you found."

"I told you, we found the gun. Apparently the Petty Officer wasn't that smart in covering his tracts once he was away from the crime scene."

A smile was starting to make its way across Alex's face, "I could kiss you right now. This is great!"

Mac looked between Alex and Olivia, and noticed the look on the brunette's face had gone from grin to smug smile. The look clearly said 'well why don’t you, company hasn't stopped you before.' She decided she really wanted these two women as friends, no matter what the military's view was on homosexuality.
