Alex threw his head back on the pillow and moaned as Jack trailed kisses down his jaw, hovering over him like a starved lion. Alex breathed and felt his skin cooling down as sweat moistened his exhausted body.

Alex looked briefly up at the ceiling, licking his lips before feeling Jack’s mouth on his again, desperate and needy.

How did they get like this? In their world there was something wrong and sinful about this. However, Alex knew all too well that after a year Jack left, his world was no longer clean. It was no longer safe and perfect. And the only time he felt even a small amount of normalcy when he was with the younger boy, seeing his smile and feeling his hand wipe away the constant tears on his face.

"Jack..." he whispered in a heavy breath. Alex cupped Jack’s face in his hands and met his eyes. Jack stopped thrusting, trapped in the stilled moment of his touch. "I love you."

Jack kissed him again, soft and lingering. "I know." He exhaled, pushing inside Alex as he writhed against him. "I love you too... God, so much. I missed you."

Alex wrapped his arms around Jack tightly, moving their hips together. "Yes, yes, me too. Me too. Please, don't ever leave me again."

Jack rested his head in the crook of the blondes shoulder. Alex sighed, relishing in his scent as his lean body encased him, satiating his senses with that familiar protection.

Jack's breathing was soft, and Alex closed his eyes, his face beaming with contentment. Finally, Jack was home.

--

He hadn't seen Jack in about a year. Now he was sitting with him during an impromptu reunion. He couldn't even believe they were out in public eating dinner like everything was normal.

No, what he really couldn't believe was that Jack came to him immediately after getting home.

Jack finally broke the comfortable silence. “I’m glad you’re not angry at me. I don’t know what I would do without you. I never forgave myself for walking away from you like that. I thought about you every day.”

"It's been so hard." Alex paused, but then his voice came out choked. "I really needed you."

"Yeah..." Jack said, reaching a finger over to wipe the tear that spilled onto Alex’s cheek. “I needed you too." Alex bit his lip as he thought of the day he went to Jack’s house, only to see a bunch of packed suitcases and bags by the door. He screamed and he cried, asking Jack why he was leaving him behind. Jack had cried as well, saying he needed to get away for some time. That he didn’t want to spend the rest of his life stuck in a small town. But he promised he would be back soon.

“I’m surprised you could even find me. Hardly anybody knew I’d moved to California.” Alex said, twirling a piece of his hair between his fingers.

“Yeah, I was shocked when Zack told me you’d moved. Never thought you would leave Baltimore, you loved it there so much.”

Alex shrugged, “I needed a change of scenery.” He looked Jack straight in the eye before adding, “Too many memories there.”

Jack stared back at him, and Alex looked away.

"Lex, is there something wrong?" he asked. Alex squeezed Jack’s hand and smiled lightly.

"No, it's just..." His eyes suddenly sparkled. "Take a picture with me."

Jack looked at him in confusion. "What?"

Alex dug a hand into his hand and pulled out his mobile. Another customer walked by, and Alex immediately stopped him. "Excuse me!" The man stopped and turned to them. Alex smiled. "Could you please take a picture of me and my best friend? I haven't seen him in a year." The man nodded, with a kind expression on his face as Alex taught him how to use the camera on his phone. He moved into the opposite side of the booth next to Jack. Instinctively, Jack put his arm around the blonde, and Alex leaned into his chest. They both smiled brightly, and after a quickly flash, Alex reached for the camera and gave the man his thanks.

H sat back into the booth next to Jack, clicking the button on her phone to see their picture. "Perfect." His grin widened, and Jack leaned in and rested his head on Alex’s shoulder.

Alex was warm, and Jack didn't want him to go back to his side of the booth.

--

"How long are you staying?" Alex asked as he began to leave Jack's hotel room. It was one in the morning, and he still didn't know where the time had gone. Mostly, they just talked or watched movies in his room.

"I'm staying a bit longer. I told May I'd come back to Baltimore and visit all the family. I haven’t talked to my Mom since I’ve left either. I'll be giving a call to her tomorrow. Hopefully, she won't hang up on me."

"Oh, I hope that goes well," Alex said, fiddling with the strings of his hoodie. He looked around nervously in the hallway of the hotel.

"I'm glad you're staying." He looked at the ground and shuffled his feet slightly. "I really need you. It's either that, or I get some mental help. This year has been...." He sighed.

"Hey, hey," Jack said soothingly. He drew Alex into his arms. "I’ll be here. Don't worry anymore, Alex. We all have our darkness to get over."

Alex nodded against him, staying in his arms for just a second longer. Alex sniffed. He loved the way Jack smelled.

"It's getting late," Alex finally said.

"Are you sure you don't want me to take you home?"

"No, I can take a cab." Alex withdrew from his chest, looking up into his face. Jack was obviously still worried. Alex moved in closer, and suddenly, a strange urge took him over. Their chests were pushed together, and Jack’s hand rested against the small of Alex’s back. Their noses were scarcely an inch apart, and he could feel Jack’s breath hitting his.

"Goodnight." Alex said, his voice barely above a whisper as moved from Jack’s embrace and he turned down the hallway.

--

Jack was leaving in two days, and Alex couldn't believe how much time had passed. He didn't want him to go, and he felt selfish. He wanted Jack to forget about his family and stay with him, here. He wanted Jack to stay forever. He felt so weak and vulnerable without him.

But when he was with Jack, he didn't feel at all like that. He made the older boy feel warm, special and safe. What would happen two days from now when he was gone? Would he revert back to vulnerable-Alex, the boy with a shattered heart and an empty life?

"We should have gone to the beach," Jack mused, setting up two folding chairs onto his hotel room balcony. He snorted. "There isn't much room here."

Alex looked around, shrugging. "I'll admit it is cozy, but it's nice. You have a great view of the ocean from here. And here we don't have to deal with people." Jack shot him a glare that made Alex laugh. "Oh, come on, you have one of the best hotel rooms around, and you want to waste your time on a public beach?" Alex leaned onto the balcony and breathed in the cool, sea air. "This is the life." He turned to Jack and gave him a sardonic smile. "I'm not even going to ask how you afforded this room."

Without realizing it, his little joke had caused Jack’s eyes to darken. He frowned, and Alex knew he’d crossed the line somewhere. "I'm sorry, Jack."

"Don't be," he said, sitting onto the lawn chair and staring onto the ground. "Sooner or later, I'm going to have to tell you everything that happened, where I went, what I did. I think I would feel better if I shared it with someone. Especially you. I owe it to you."

"Do you... want to talk about it now?" Alex asked, walking slowly over to him. Jack shook his head.

"I don't want to ruin the day," Jack said. He pulled his loose fitting t-shirt over his head. Alex’s voice was stuck in his throat, and he stood mesmerized by Jack’s form.

"Well... we might as well made the most of it before you have to leave," said Alex, his voice coming out lower than he had meant. He turned around to cover his blush, and nervously his hands pulled his shirt over his head. When he turned around, he realized Jack wasn't staring at his face, yet rather at his body.

He shouldn’t have felt this way. Sure, him and Jack had been topless around each other hundreds of times - Jesus Christ, one time Jack had even started jerking off in front of him and- Alex, no.

Suddenly, the air felt very thick and awkward.

Then, Alex immediately sprung off his chair, realizing he had forgotten something. His motion made Jack jump. "Oh! I forgot the lotion!"

"It's right here," Jack said, grabbing the bottle and handing it to him.

Automatically, Alex pushed the bottle back to him and said, "Could you help?" Jack nodded, swallowing harshly with his eyes clouding with desire. Alex suddenly shivered.

He turned around on his seat, and Jack’s hands were on his back, moist from the lotion as he swirled his fingers over Alex’s flesh. Alex closed his eyes in contentment, and he felt Jack’s hand slowly make him way down as he rubbed the oil onto his lower back. He felt his finger accidentally graze over his bathing shorts waistband, and his eyes shot open, his body oddly stirring in anxiety.

"All done in the back. You don't need me too..."

"No," Alex said quickly, forcing a smile. "I got it."

Jack tried not to watch his, and he laid back into his chair as Alex finished applying the lotion to his front. He handed Jack the bottle when he was done. Jack obligingly took it, starting to speak as he lathered up himself.

"Did you ever wonder, what could’ve been? You know, if I hadn’t left." Jack asked out of the blue, quickly gaining Alex’s attention. He looked at Jack with wide eyes. Alex hadn't expected such a question out of the blue, but there was no doubt that he'd thought of it before.

"Well, y-yeah, I mean... all the time. You were engaged to Holly, you could’ve been married by now.” Alex paused, and his voice was soft and sad. "The past year had changed the both of us."

Jack paused, looking away. His brow furrowed. "Yeah, we have changed." He sighed. "Alex, will it ever be the same between us? I don't want there to be this wall between us."

"Yeah..." Alex said with a far away voice, looking out to the calm ocean waters. "Of course it is Jack. You’re my best friend.”

Immediately, Alex felt Jack's hand on his shoulder. He turned to him, and his face beamed with hope.

"I’m glad things are okay between us, Alex, at least we won't be alone. We'll have each other." Jack's smile was contagious. Alex patted his hand.

"Trust me, Jack. That's the only good thing about being alone."

Alex didn't know whether or not to be overjoyed or sad from Jack's attitude. Instead, he let it slide and proceeded to enjoy the hot California sun. He wouldn't let such a day go to waste, and for a moment, he felt rebellious. All this pitiful moaning between them was getting on her nerves. It was no way to spend his last couple of days with Jack. He didn't want to think about the past or the stupid future where they lived across the country from each other. He thought it was all so stupid, and he'd be damned if he wasted a perfectly good day wallowing in his own misery.

He had done enough of that over the last year.

--

Jack watched Alex as he moved toward the shower. He caught a glance of the older boys sorrowful face, and instantly, Jack grabbed his arm and pulled him back. Suddenly, words came out of his mouth that he didn't know he was capable of saying.

He turned Alex around, and he was pressed against Jack’s chest, half-nakedness to his. He said soothingly, "Alex, don't you think we've had enough misery in our life?"

Alex nodded against him, and Jack could feel a growing erection digging in against his thigh. He shuddered, heat pooling below him. He leaned in and gave Alex a chaste kiss.

But it didn't stay chaste for too long.

--

Alex leaned into him, feeling burning lips on his. He opened his mouth, and immediately the line was crossed as Jack pushed his tongue past Alex’s lips and teeth. Alex moaned, and his hands were in Jack’s hair, trailing down and gripping his shoulders. He snaked his arms around Jack, squeezing him tightly with need. Jack pulled them both back, and Alex felt weightless as they fell onto to the bed.

Alex threw himself over him as Jack leaned into the bed, devouring his mouth hungrily and searching out his heat with his frenetic hands. He moved his fingers over Jack’s chest, heaving against Alex’s palms and Jack’s heart racing with his every touch.

"Alex..." he whispered, and suddenly hearing the blonde’s name on Jack’s lips like that had filled up so much lost time. Alex squirmed over his lap, and felt Jack’s fingers in his hair. Jack was hard underneath him, and Alex moaned happily into Jack’s mouth as he bucked into him. As Jack pulled down both their shorts, Alex suddenly felt both their hardened muscles scraping against others. Alex let out a deep groan as Jack’s busy hands fell below, one hand beginning to work at his length, the other getting something from the top drawer. Alex fisted his hands in Jack’s hair as he felt a wet finger push inside his hole.

When he felt Jack push in another finger, he threw his head back and moaned. Jack trailed kisses down his jaw line, his lips finally resting upon Alex’s chest. Alex arched into him as Jack’s tongue grazed his nipple.

Alex’s hips moved to the rhythm of the fingers, now a third being added in. Hungrily Jack continued to lap at Alex’s chest, sucking and nibbling the sensitive skin as a fire started to build up inside him. Alex felt completely at Jack's mercy, his ecstasy growing to Jack’s every touch, ready to burst into the open.

He'd never felt so alive - so safe and normal - within Jack's arms.

And he remembered what he had said only minutes ago: “At least we won't be alone. We'll have each other."

Alex just hoped that he was enough for the younger boy; that he was exactly what he wanted.

Alex whined in protest as Jack’s fingers pulled out, but they were soon replaced by something much larger and whole, and Alex squeaked with surprise as Jack thrust into him, stilling for a few moments before moving again.

"Yes..." Alex cooed, and Jack's heavy breath was against his skin with his nose rubbing against Alex’s neck. Jack moved his hands and gripped the blonde’s hips; slowing the older boys pace to match his as Alex moved on top of him, bucking into his touch. Jack took Alex’s cock into his hand, beginning to jerk him off in time with his thrusts.

Warm and hard like steel, he drew in and out of Alex faster, his insides pulsating around Jack’s cock, slick and sweet around him. Alex’s nails dug into Jack’s back as he rode him, bouncing and moaning out strangled tones of his name. Jack’s muscles tightened, and he thrust upward, pushing further, hitting Alex’s spot harder than before. Alex screamed one final time, and Jack felt his thighs spasm, and the blonde slacked against him, finding his release.

Jack pushed harder a few times, wanting to catch up, and not until Alex kissed his shoulder lightly, did he suddenly feel it, a ball of power unraveling within him, screaming to come out. He flipped Alex onto his back, and grunted, ramming and pistoning one last time before he emptied inside of the older boy. Jack moaned as Alex’s hands gripped his black hair, and his legs shuddered with aftershocks, and he whined exhaustion as Jack froze, branding himself inside of Alex with every last drop.

"Jack...." Alex fell back onto the pillow next to him as Jack leaned on his side. He pushed the hair from Alex’s eyes and watched the blonde with a lazy expression, rich from the after glow.

"You're beautiful," Jack purred, and he watched Alex with eyes that he'd never seen before.

Alex looked up at him shyly, his face reddening. "And you're amazing." He traced a hand over Jack’s cheek, and he grabbed it, kissing Alex’s palm quickly.

"Alex, do you think..." Jack paused, but his smile would not disappear. There was only a small amount of worry prevalent in his eyes. Alex guessed that was better than anything. "Do you think this is wrong?"

He thought for a moment. “Y-you make me happy. And I haven’t been happy in a long time. I’m not giving that up for anyone.” Alex smiled at him as Jack continued to stare, touching Alex lightly and tickling his cooling skin. “Even if people did know, it doesn’t matter anyway.'’

Jack’s smile widened, and soon both of them felt their love was justified. Even if it wasn't, they couldn't deny any longer they needed each other. They could be countries apart, years apart, but they would still eventually find each other.

"I've missed you," Jack said, drawing Alex close into his embrace. Alex snuggled against him, feeling that they fit perfectly. The past slowly turned to dust in their minds, and the warm California air mixed with their carnal scents created a somber sanctuary.

"Never leave me again," Alex said. He looked at Jack sternly. "And when you leave for Baltimore, call every day. Call just to say hi and tell me how you feel."

"I will..." Jack said, kissing his nose.

"And you must come back." Alex nuzzled his face into Jack’s sweaty chest. Jack ran his fingers through Alex’s hair, and he felt the younger boy breathe easily against him. Alex mumbled against him, "You have come back to me, Jack."

He kissed Alex full on the mouth and rewarded him with a smile that sang of promise.

"I will, Alex," Jack replied, and everything about him reassured Alex and made him feel loved. Jack pulled Alex against him again for a tight cuddle and closed his eyes. Memories of the last year, dark and misguided, faded away to the black corners of his mind. Only the warmth of Alex's light filled him now.

And as Alex fell asleep comfortably in his arms, Jack finally whispered to him, "I have to come back. Because with you, Alex, I'm home."
