B. The Republicans were actually counting on Obama's move. They spent the entirety of his presidency trying to drive him insane and it worked. They use him as an example in order to demonize the left (which he doesn't really represent), and with criminals out raping and murdering and robbing, people are freaked out and buy into everything the Republicans say, just like after 9/11.

The Republican president, a tea party candidate and therefore crazier than Bush, uses the chaos as an excuse to declare a state of national emergency, suspends the constitution, and creates a dictatorship. The U.S. turns into a theocratic, totalitarian, orwellian 1984 - meets - "The Handmaid's Tale" dystopia, and is isolated from the rest of the world. The U.S. tries to take over the entire Middle East, and all of the other countries ally against America. World War III breaks out, goes nuclear, and Earth becomes too irradiated for humans to inhabit.

Millions of years after humanity's extinction, the evolutionary descendents of Humboldt squids have evolved to be able to live on land and in water and have evolved such intelligence that they become the next technologically advanced species, develop a space - faring civilization (which does not fuck up the planet), and colonize the entire Solar System, particularly Europa (their favorite world, once they start exploring space), and they eventually develop FTL spaceflight and contact extrasolar civilizations, which are relieved and pleasently surprised that the Earthlings they are contacted by are not the ones whose television and radio signals they picked up before (they contact civilizations far enough away to just be recieving TV from Earth that far in the future). They are even more relieved to hear that the species responsible for those signals are extinct.

The debate among the space - faring cephelopods continues: were humans destroyed by a meteor, some kind of accident, solar disaster, super volcano, or ice age? After all, there is NO WAY that an intelligent species would destroy itself, right? When humanity's demise is finally understood, it becomes a joke across the cosmos and humans finally get cosmic attention. Referring to a sentient being as a human (whatever humans are called by other civilizations) is the ultimate insult in several galaxies.
