Thrift stores...

...might be my favorite part of New York. I have terrible restraint when it comes to bargain books, even when I could probably get them at the library for only a bit of waiting. And people donate some really nice clothes! I've found suit jackets and blouses and even a formal dress. (A bookshelf on rollers that I quite like, too, but which I had to wheel the mile back to my apartment!)

I took a crack at challah a couple days ago. It came out looking nice and was pretty good for a first try, I think. I was really craving the fluffy, airy insides, though, and mine came out a bit dense. It's very time consuming - I think it took about six hours from start to finish, requiring a step every hour or so, so it's good for when you're stuck at home with nothing to do.

I've had a difficult workload these past couple weeks; today I got a research paper way over an appropriate length with four dozen authors and references completely out of order, and I almost wanted to weep. However, I do have an excellent coworker who lightens things up a lot - we tend to plot jokingly and she is really nice about sharing chocolate. :) The other copy editors tend to send around funny bits, too, like terrible sentences or amusing links. Here's a good one from the Onion 4 Copy Editors Killed In Ongoing AP Style, Chicago Manual Gang Violence
