And sort of grey…

15 June 2013, one nice place in the south of Poland…

…and one nice blooming bush by a nice town boulevard along to a river. A Weigela shrub, if I’m not mistaken. Very popular in parks and gardens here.

Somewhat less civilised but no less nice place… I think it’s some species of the genus Omaloplia. And don’t think this little fellow lacked spirit! Look, he didn’t try to run away. He actually tried to threaten the camera hundred times bigger.

This one looks less fiery, but make no mistake. It’s a male scorpionfly Panorpa communis, just munching his lunch, rather flegmatically. I guess it’s some less lucky ant. A female scorpionfly visited me last year.

And don’t think you’re the only observer in the forest. ‘What are you staring at, eh?’ :)

Speaking of what, you can sometimes observe most surprising things… This is a black stork Ciconia nigra, but this plumage looks hardly black, does it? I guess it’s a young bird, but on the other hand, the legs and beak’s hue is very adult… I’m not going to be choosy, any such view is like meeting a living unicorn, since for the most of my life I was used to think about black storks as half-mythical beasts from the Red List, but in the last decade or two they refused to extinct and have become less seldom and, apparently, far less shy. Anyway, I must confess I prefer the local name - hajstra. :)

Aaaand… this one must be a buzzard. I can assure you, he managed to tell ‘predator’ by his flight only. I think they must be quite popular here, last year I saw one in a place a few dozens of kilometers to the north, but the photo is even worse.

Farewell screech!
