GARGH!! I've just finished it and I'm not sure I'm even coherent enough to fling anything together. This killed me dead. Ok, in some sense of order ( ... )

The news that *he* was the one to kill the other prisoner shocked me, I'll admit and was the only thing I sort of went *blink* at, that didn't quite flow right for me

I didn't like that at first either, because it could be read as saying that the 'bad guys' really are worse than the 'good guys'. But then I thought about it. If it was really outside the realm of possibility that the 'bear-men' would smash a suspect's head in in the showers, they would have been looking for an intruder immediately upon finding hiim. The fact was, Draco knew he could do that and no-one would raise an alarm, because it's the kind of thing the 'good guys' would do and did do. The fact that Jennings passed it off as an 'accident' says that it's happened before and it'll happen again, with his blessing. ::shudders:: I think what it shows is that there really is no difference between the 'bad' and the 'good' side when people stop seeing the 'other side' as human beings.

You are fantastic. I love these debate things because I get to start it off, chip in my two cents and some things I notice and hear other peoples, seeing if they picked up on anything else that I missed or are able to put down in words things I noticed but couldn't seem to make sense of my own thoughts long enough to put it down on paper. This, is exactly what you did. Thank you.

Your comment was exactly how I felt about the whole thing and it is rather disconcerting that the apparent 'good guys' didn't even question that Jennings would have went to such an extent and that even his prodegee, Harry, was ready to believe that he would have harmed this man (can't remember his name)to such an extent he felt physically ill.

You know what? This comment is brilliant. Thank you for bringing that up, thats such a good point, that sort of sailed past me while I was busy being indignant and rageful. See this is what I like about the whole debates thing.

The fact was, Draco knew he could do that and no-one would raise an alarm, because it's the kind of thing the 'good guys' would do and did do.

Exactly, thank you for saying this, because you've just shifted this inexplicable action into one that makes sense within the whole theme of the story. Hurrah!

Okay so I'm very, very glad you responded because not only did you bring up a lot of interesting points, I get to see what kind of things you notice! Which is excellent for that whole thing we're planning ... that I spent the morning thinking about.

Anywho, onto this post. For number 1. I completely agree with you. Mostly, I don't like seeing completely sweet, fluffy Draco. I abhor it with a passion, unless it's in one-shots and they're meant to be fluffy and OOC, that I can take. So, seeing a Draco who's cunning and, well, slightly cruel in his methods was really refreshing. Draco killing the guy, well, at first it didn't sit out of place with me because the first time I read things I read them for enjoyment and I certainly enjoyed the plot twist. Reading over it slightly disturbed me a bit that he could have killed this guy in cold blood and left him in such a state that Harry was ill seeing the picture AND that no one suspected that the prisoners had done it. flamewarrior's comment says exactly what I think about this subject ( ... )

Hermione, for me, was so perfect in this fic, the same way Ron and Harry were. Harry was jaded, Ron was frustrated and seemed rather angry with his lot in life, and Hermione was just as stubborn and determined to do the right thing as ever.

Exactly. I can really picture this characters forming out of the canonical ones as a result of a long, drawn out and futile war. We still get such a sense of familarity and love between them, even when they are fighting, that you can't help but see them as a natural progression from those in the books. Lovely. Also, I breathed a sigh of utter relief at the lack of EVIL!ron/hermione that seems to crop up in such a lot of h/d fic, seemingly (to me at least) that the characters have been completely butchered in order that Harry and Draco get to have a lot of sex! I mean I wouldn't complain, but there are more believable plot devices out there, and I love Hermione! *pets*

How do you interperet Draco's comment I owe you one? Do you think if he saw Harry in battle he'd let him live to see another day, or if Harry was captured, Draco would ensure a quick and fairly painless death?God you know, with this fic, this harry and draco, I honestly think it could go either way. Draco here is so pragmatic and practical, yet driven by his beliefs, both in pureblood supremacy and in his love for Harry, that somehow if Harry was captured I cannot picture him staging a daring escape for him. Yet his love is palpable so it could happen. On the other hand, he could recognise the futility of such an action and grant him a quick death. Gah the layers, the layers ( ... )

But prehaps, Draco's 'betrayal' (if you want to call it that) will give him back the desire to fight and win the war.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking when Draco says something like I've given you something in return in the letter. If Harry does win, where will that leave Draco? Would Harry agree to kill him, rather than let him be kissed (if there are still Dementors at Azkaban)? I see confusion and angst on the horizon.
