The weather turned cold without any warning, as if Fall decided not to attend this year. Beth C. was on town over the weekend, experiencing the real Portland--that is, staying indoors sipping tea/coffee to avoid the cold rain outside. It didn't rain the entire weekend; we went hiking on Saturday near Mt. Hood. Paul, Beth C., Bethy, Sean S. and I hopped into Paul's van and drove to Zigzag. Paul & Bethy chose a trail that was described as "so well-graded, you won't even know you're going uphill." 3.5 exhausted hours later we crawled the last few slushy, snowy feet to the peak.

But what a view! It was worth it. It took us a little over 2 hours to get down, and by that time it was almost dark. We were all exhausted...we didn't even make it to Oktoberfest!

Beth C., Paul, and I did try to go to a McMenamin's and have a pint, but that was a fiasco. I am used to good service at all McMenamins'. They asked Paul to leave the building because he only had an interim license--as if it's his fault the DMV made him surrender his WA license but didn't print his new one right away. I almost flipped. I was tired and very hungry. I had a very bad attitude, but honestly, how much effort would it have taken for the waitress to have even sounded sympathetic?!?!

Anyway. My new student worker started today. Nothing like being a leader to show you how inept you really are. There's a good reason I need someone to help keep me organized! So far Kelsi is great. I felt really bad saying "let's just be friends" to the other girls, because it was a really hard choice.

Did I mention I have a new phone? It's a PDA. Supposedly I'm all organized now...? At least it can pick up wi-fi. So I'm on the bus, near downtown. Pretty awesome, huh?

Blooooooooooggin' on the buuuuuuuus!

*ahem*

Olive had a hernia. I say had because it seems to have...spontaneously healed? That is, she had a tiny bump on her belly when we got her, then it got bigger and hard. While getting her latest shots, the vet checked it out and said she needed surgery before it got worse. I scheduled the appointment, and the the bump disappeared. So I brought her in today anyway, and they called to tell me that her body had "reabsorbed it" and she didn't surgery now after all. K, is that normal???

Well, must get off the bus. We're deviating from the normal route due to contruction & I'm all turned around!
