Meh.

Well, I was involved in a minor car accident yesterday. It was raining and the roads were pretty slick. I braked in order to make a certain turn but slid forward too far. I felt a violent impact and assumed I'd slammed into the curb. Trying not to panic, I drove further down the road so I could turn around and get back to the street I was going for originally. I saw a vehicle on my way back that had been damaged on the front and thought "Huh... someone must have had a wreck just a second ago!"

I didn't realize I'd been hit from behind until I got to the Wal-Mart parking lot and stepped out. My left tail light had been completely destroyed. It looked as if a bite had been taken out of the back left side of my vehicle. I started freaking out a little bit, but I clocked in as usual, unsure of what I should do.

Perhaps fifteen minutes later, I was called up to the service desk where a police officer was waiting for me. He asked me I had been involved in an accident and I told him yes, apparently I had been. I explained the situation from my point of view and he took me up to another officer who was with the people who had rear-ended me. They said nothing, but the woman gave me a sour look the entire time I was being asked questions. I let him see my license, but I didn't have my insurance card on me. I called my mother and she said she'd bring it into the station; hopefully she did that.

I have no idea whose blame this will fall under. On one hand, they rear-ended me. In order to do that, they had to have been following too closely. In the state of Kentucky, the law is that you must maintain four seconds of distance from the car ahead of you. That would have been plenty of time to stop, even in wet conditions. On the other hand, I did stop suddenly, so maybe the blame could lay with me.

I'm just worried about what kind of financial trouble I could be in and the fact that I have a busted taillight that I can do absolutely nothing about at the moment. I'm tired of being afraid every time I fucking leave the house. I've been pulled over twice recently for forgetting to turn my headlights on, and there have been a few times since then I've forgotten. It's not like I learn from my mistakes or anything. What if I get pulled over because I can't use my left turn signal now? There's nothing I can do about it. What alternative do I have to get to work if I take my car somewhere to be fixed? My mother is too busy, and I wouldn't want to burden Charlotte with carting my ass around, especially since I live so far out in the middle of nowhere.
