Fixing things

Jul 07, 2009 00:44

It's always a good feeling when things get repaired. It puts an end to a project, or gets you a little bit closer to completion. Things I've fixed today:
  • Stereo system - We got this a year ago, and I only got around to fixing it today. I ended up swapping the rotary coders, because the volume knob was wonky, and the other knob really isn't used.
  • Volume knob - Kind of cheesy, but I fashioned a replacement volume knob out of plastic, and got it to stick rather nicely to the stereo. If I feel like it later I'll Dremmel it down.
  • Blinking LEDs - I found the code to disable the really bright blinking LEDs on the wifi cards. The code is rather cool, actually.
  • Backlight brightness - I fiddled around with the PWM generator and got it to behave properly. Now with 50% more brightness!
  • Kindle battery - Okay, I didn't really fix this, more like got the process started. My battery indicator is "?", which apparently means the LiIon battery is defective. Huh.
  • TV Out - I got my project to display on a TV. That was at 2AM this morning, but it was fun in any case. Needs a bit more cleverness to get working right.

Besides all of that, I've been cleaning off and on. I've gotten rid of some stuff I really don't need. Now if only I could fix the Roomba...
