That moderate viewpoint has just been shown to be WAY too generous of us. A memo, dated October 25th, 2006 shows a VAST array of some of the top-spending advertisers have stated that they will not allow their ads to be aired on Air America, thus robbing it of its attractiveness to stations that want to run AAR programming.
In the memo, sent to ABC Radio Networks, it states that Hewlett Packard has bought airtime but wants it clear not to air any of its ads during Air America programming. The memo then, as a form of reminder, lists 90 different companies, brands or products whose ads should never be allowed to be aired during Air America programs. The original memo can be seen at

As it is a scan of a fax, and the list of company names is so very long yet squeezed on one page, many of the names are a little difficult to make out. To help you reference who all is involved in this, I’ve typed the list out, below. You may recognize many (if not all) of the 90 entries, aside from the few I couldn’t even make out well enough to type up. Some may shock you. I know the American Heart Association, the United States Navy and the United States Post Office caught my attention as groups I didn’t expect to be involved in such a thing, and when you see some of the truly heavy-hitters in here (do you have any idea how much McDonald’s spends in ad dollars??), it becomes pretty apparent that there is a concerted effort to try and starve the newborn genre of Progressive Talk at its inception.
