End of an era
Although we've expected it for a while, a formal announcement was just made that the company cafeteria is closing on the 27th. The building is being torn down to make a new parking lot. There will be no more $2 all-you-can-eat lunches. More importantly, there will no longer be a place for us all to eat lunch together. Katie's Kitchen, as it was called, was a great place to sit around and just shoot the shit with your coworkers. I personally think it played a huge part in creating the family-like atmosphere that makes (made?) this a great place to work.
What will be replacing this unique and, in my opinion, critical piece of corporate culture? More microwaves and a larger than normal break room. It will be ready by the end of the year. I foresee my lunches spent eating PB&J's or Slim Fast shakes in front of my computer.
