It's Friday already? It sure got here in a hurry!

Work has been, well, different this week. There's a lot of stuff going on so the day seems to go by quickly, but I've actually gotten very little code written at all. Granted, the bulk of the work is in QA, but there are still things I need to take care of.

Speaking of QA, it's a little more difficult than it has to be. The company hired another company from India to do our QA and while the in-office guy speaks English fairly well, we still have some communication problems. They seem to have a good grasp on how to test the programs that have a user interface, but the two services we've written are really giving them problems. They don't really understand the business requirements well enough to design appropriate test cases. For example, they tried to do a "sanity" test of the service I wrote but screwed the whole thing up. Without going into details, the service expects to process files each day and is expecting a file from each store each day. We've saved 3 days worth of data for them to test however, they ran the test on my service using the last day's data first and worked backward. I consider myself a good programmer, but even I can't write code that handles time running backwards unexpectedly.

In other work-related news, one of the guys I work with left for vacation today. That means it's time for another cubicle renovation! He's a hunter so the group decided at lunch today to build a camouflaged stand in his cubicle. I'm going to bring Mary's video camera to work on Monday and shoot a Extreme Makeover: Home Edition style video of the "demolition" phase of his cubicle. Once the demo is complete, a couple the guys are going to raise the floor in his cubicle by building a platform out of plywood and 2X4's. Another guy is going to bring in some camo netting. I'm going to buy some camo tape and, after wrapping the sides of his PC in newspaper, cover it in tape. Anyway, there's more, but that's the general idea. Photos will be taken and posted when we're finished.
