ARGH!! Ever notice how when you miss a single credit card payment, the company calls you and says "how would you like to take care of this"? The problem is that most of the time I cannot understand what the person on the other end is saying. Why? Because they are probably from India, in India, and don't freaking speak English!!
Then you tell them that you sent the payment in. Their response "How much can you pay today"? So you tell them again I MAILED THE PAYMENT. They say "We can take a post dated check or debit card payment". At this point I am thinking this person is seriously stupid. So I repeat again that I mailed the payment in and apparently it just hasn't gotten there yet. So what does my lovely credit card rep say? "Ma'am, you owe this money, you used the card and now you need to pay. How do you want to take care of this issue"?
I lost my temper. I asked the rep if they understood English cause they sure as heck didn't understand me. So then my rep got mad and said I was insulting her and calling her uneducated. Then she continued to tell me that she was more educated than I was because she spoke three languages and paid her bills on time. I was like F*CK YOU! I told her good for her but apparently English wasn't one of those three languages or she would have understood me several times when I told her that I already mailed the payment in.
She had the nerve to ask me how educated I was. I told her "you first. how educated are you?" She said it was none of my business and that we just needed to take care of my unpaid bill. Then she actually said something in her native language which I am sure was "you f*ucking bitch" but since I don't speak India, I am not sure. So I asked for a supervisor.
Anyhoo..guess what happened when the supervisor came. It was a total repeat of everything only this time the accent was worse and I had an even harder time making myself understood. In the end, the supervisor hung up on me because he thought I said he was stupid. I did, but that is not the point.
So, I called the customer service number on my card. I got a real live American who speaks English. Imagine that. I asked what my balance was and told her I wanted to pay off the card and close the account. She asked why. Poor thing. I told her everything. In the end, I kept my card. But my interest rate was lowered and my credit limit was raised. The American Dream: credit card debt.
