i hope the americans on my flist had a wonderful thanksgiving with family and friends, and gorged yourselves on scrumptious food :D tell me what you ate! i want to know all about it.
speaking of food, i had a pretty horrific experience with a jar of garlic achaar [i.e. pickle] the other night. i was cooking some chicken curry, and was just about to add the achaar, which was the final and most important ingredient, when i realised that SOMETHING ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING was growing on the inside of the lid! y'know how there's usually a label affixed to the inside of a jar lid? well, it had somehow become incredibly brittle and this reddish-brown spiky thing was growing on it, extending its many arms towards the contents of the jar! it was like a brown sea urchin fungus thing combined with rust! then it crumbled to pieces and fell into the jar, thereby completely destroying the pickle. i wasn't going to use it anyway, not with such a disgusting thing growing on the lid, but holy shit. IT WAS FUCKED UP. i was so freaked out! usually i photograph things that bother me [especially when it comes to fungi], but i felt so nauseous and grossed out that i promptly removed it from my flat, hyperventilated for a few mins, and then decided to use a different achaar :/
then i had this conversation:me: *describes frightening experience in a tearful voice*
the bf: it's okay, baby. it's just fungus.
me: I KNOW! and i've seen many different kinds of fungus and mold, sometimes on my bread and veggies, but this was so WEIRD!
the bf: it's alright. the fungus has to eat just like you have to eat.
me: BUT WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO EAT MY FOOD? I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO IT :(
so yeh. that's my scary achaar anecdote. it completely robbed me of my appetite too, which sucked on multiple levels b/c a) i was looking forward to the meal, b) i'd been very hungry up to that point since hadn't eaten a single thing ALL DAY. so basically, i ended up NOT EATING AT ALL on nov 25, 2010.
other than this recent vomit-inducing experience, i've had a quiet few days. been busy helping
the bf with his medical residency applications, and watching a lot of batman: the animated series in my spare time.

8) would you eat these airplane meals?: HELL YEA. i love airplane food an epic amount. i've always had food issues since i was a child - hated eating, couldn't keep food down, was always sick, blah blah. but my parents would get a temporary reprieve whenever we'd travel anywhere b/c i'd eat everything i was offered without any complaints. I LOVE THE PACKAGING. THE COMPARTMENTALISATION. THE SERVING SIZES. AND THE TRAYS. no matter what tyler durden says, single serving food is fucking EPIC in my books.
9) 50 best inventions of 2010: i had such a hard time picking my favourites, but square, spray on fabric and the straddling bus top the list. ALONG WITH ALL THE ROBOTS, OF COURSE.
10) robots: the cure for loneliness?: YES, YES, WHO'S GETTING ME ONE FOR CHRISTMAS AND/OR MY BIRTHDAY? i don't want a robot lover, i just want a companion.
