happy birthday to
oddsbobs,
archae_ology and
13chapters!
oh man, i've been occupied with so much wonderful fic and art, gaaaaaa. ahh, the woes of being a multi-shipper in multiple fandoms! i love you, fandom ♥
however, this also means i've come to the sad conclusion that it'll take me until at least october to get through my supernatural BB reading list, especially if i keep going at my current rate *shakes head sadly* nb: if you're on my flist and i haven't commented on your fic, it's b/c i haven't read it yet!
but hey! i looked at 100 art posts last night before compiling this entry - that's an accomplishment, right? :P so without further ado, here's the newest recs edition for your enjoyment!
FIC RECS
1)
dictionary for a dead language by
britomart_is : wincest. wow. i'm a big fan of this author and started reading this story with high expectations, and they were all met. this is future!fic, based on the scenario that sam says yes to lucifer, and returns a few years later. it's visceral and poignant, and made me cry during every chapter. the ending is lovely and plausible, the descriptions equally beautiful and heartbreaking, and i have nothing but good things to say about this story. wonderful read.
2)
the outlaw dean winchester by
runedgirl : wincest. in which our fave douche angel, zachariah, plunges the boys into a different time and place to teach them yet another lesson. the au world the author created was amazing, and i loved how there was a connection between dean and sam even when they were in such a different setting. the fact that it took them time and effort to reconcile their feelings in the real world made it an even better fic.
3)
if i loved you less [then maybe i could talk about it more] by
elanorelle : j2 au. this is a wonderful rendition of austen's emma. like i told the author, the original isn't my fave austen, but i still had high expectations - and they were all surpassed! this is a really sweet and fun read, and i zipped through it from start to finish. it has great characters, good pacing, strong dialogue, and a very satisfying conclusion.
4)
the sinister nature of cul-de-sacs by
fahrbot : j2 au. this is a fun tale of jensen and his mysterious neighbour, jared, with a handful of kooky characters and some interesting twists.
5)
coda by
raeschae : j2 au. really liked this story due to the characterisation, the style of story-telling, the non-linear timeline and the importance of music in both jared and jensen's lives. certain songs will automatically transport me to a specific period of my life or incite a particular reaction, and i really enjoyed reading about characters who obviously love music as much as i do.
6)
disaster [this is a good one] by
aisalynn : j2 au. this is a cute rom-com type of story where jared ends up kidnapping jensen [!] so he can show up for christmas dinner with a boyfriend. it's fun and sweet, and made for a good afternoon read.
7)
redemption by
ancastar : j2 au. futuristic sci-fi story with slavery, mystery, romance and more! what i liked best about this fic was the great world-building, attention to detail, and the fact that despite being a slave!fic, the author focused on more than the power dynamics between the principal characters [although that in itself is quite delicious]. there is an interesting overarching plot, and i enjoyed the pacing and plot progression even though it's a lengthy story. definitely worth reading.
8)
until you catch on [i'll hold my breath] by
akintay : j2 au. if you're looking for a straightforward story that is sweet and fun, this is a good place to start. i liked the emotional build-up, the changes jensen's character goes through as the story progresses, and the resolution. made for a quick and enjoyable read.
9)
the ramblers by
mijmeraar : j2 au. jfc, i think this one's PHENOMENAL. it's become one of my very favourites from the entire fest b/c of the writing style and the characterisation. the former is unique and refreshing, and had me totally hooked. as for the latter, the author's definitely not scared to write about realistic characters - about how messy and complicated and imperfect people and relationships are, and that's something i've always enjoyed. i have a lot of appreciation for the supporting cast, who feel fully fleshed out and dynamic. there's also a wry kind of humour that made me grin several times, and the ust between jensen and jared is hot like burning. HIGHLY RECCED!
ART RECS
1)
we're off to see the wizard by
quoth_the : so cute! i love the style and colours. very fun!
2)
cross creek hotel by
nerrianah : another illustration with style i really like - especially the juxtaposition of the characters against the muted background.
3)
luminousby
meivocis : i usually don't enjoy fanvids, but this trailer is really slick. good choice of scenes and music, and the editing is superb. the fanmix art is eye-catching due to its clean and simple design, and the mix itself is amazing too - includes a perfect circle, nine inch nails, tool, placebo, marilyn manson, deftones, pearl jam AND clint mansell. i.e. mega win!
4)
the man in the moon by
talulababy : the main illustration is hauntingly beautiful and has actually been my laptop wallpaper for the past 3 weeks. i'm quite fond of the movie poster and found the publishing logo to be a nice touch too.
5)
the heavens aligned against us [sounds like a fair fight] by
crimson_adder : i think the black and white characters atop a coloured textured background is an interesting style.

odysseaia : beaaauutiful art that reminds of storybooks from my childhood. i simply can't pick a favourite b/c every illustration is lovely.
7)
disaster [this is a good one] by
eryslash : the pretty colours and the interesting "split" technique in the second drawing really caught my eye. very pleasant to look at!
8)
sugar and spice, the secrets of life by
paula_lirio : some of the cutest AND yummiest [!] art on the fest! i wish i could reach through my computer screen and nom on these pretties, hee!
9)
coda by
maichan808 : easily one of the most impressive art submissions this year. the website is absolutely phenomenal - very professional and aesthetically pleasing. like i told the artist, i spent over 10 minutes browsing through everything, and left the tab open in my browser for ages b/c i didn't want to close it. the trailer is very neat as well.
10)
you spin my head right round by
muckette : i like how similar the poster is to the original, yet so unique. and i am incredibly attracted to the artist's version of misha, hee. it's the mouth. or the eyes. or the neck. or the fact that he's wearing my two fave colours - turquoise and purple. jensen and jared look rather attractive too!
11)
here burns a candle out by
peach_gurl : i'm completely enamoured with the first illustration - jensen looks so freaking pretty! the clothes! the airship! his mouth! i love the clothing and body language in the second drawing as well. again, very pretty.
12)
season ticket on a one-way ride by
attempt_unique : a large number of attractive manips, all with a very atmospheric feeling due to the various effects and textures used. there's a haunting quality to most of them that i quite enjoyed.
13)
actus reus by
ladyamarra : i like the drawings, especially the main poster for the story. very moody and mysterious.
14)
a heart like an artichoke by
auroraprimavera : easy-to-navigate website with a LOT of cutesy graphics - i was impressed with the variety and quantity of images! thought the artichoke and apple wallpapers were very quirky, and nabbed the colourful wallpaper for my laptop.
15)
the touch of his hand by
orukaz : another batch of gorgeous drawings! they're all beautiful, but my fave is the first scene illustration of sam reading a book.
16)
spoiling the barrel by
blackbyrdy : haunting evocative sketches that i kept perusing over and over. very impressed by the artist's talent!
17)
i know what a prince and lover ought to be by
beelikej : i've mentioned before that i like medieval art, so it's not surprising that i found this fun and entertaining. liked the looks of the various cards and thought they were creative.
18)
out of breath by
marciaelena : breathtaking art! these digital paintovers are very impressive and the boys look gorrrrgeous! WHY SO BEAUTIFUL, HMM?
19)
hearts bigger than starry skies by
buff_iroh : easily one of my ABSOLUTE FAVES from the entire fest. THEIR FACES. THEIR BODIES. THE COLOURS. UNF. makes me feel like i could walk through my screen and actually end up in the wilderness!
20)
the ramblers by
spn43v3r : sooooo many great drawings to look at! very fond of the sepia tones, the shading, the nc-17 scene, the poster of jensen and the entire photography theme.
as usual, feel free to tell me your recent faves so i can bump them to the top of my reading pile!
