belated birthday wishes for nolagal and phutro!
i had a mini meltdown last night. the itchy face was back in full force, i had a number of household problems to deal with [mainly bursting lightbulbs & malfunctioning toilets], and a number of more serious issues that are ever-present [and that i never talk about] reared their head. sort of caved to the stress and just full out bawled for a good 20 mins after coming home from the doctor's. then i picked myself up and did mindless chores
watching my bb DR. SPENCER REID on criminal minds definitely helped. also, i had a truly LULZY conversation laaaate at night with jell0_ and perfumaniac about j2 + gummy bear sex [among other things] which left me with a huge grin on my face *hugs her girls*
[btw the itchiness started up again on monday morning. now it's just on the parts of my face that my bangs come in contact with that are affected by a rash. my scalp seems generally okay except for minor spots here and there. my family doc has referred me to a dermatologist. only problem is the derm's hours clash with my work so i'm going to give myself a week and then decide what i should do].
i'm a pretty good plumber now, eh? remember the Toilet Woes™ i had a few months ago? well, i fixed that but something new cropped up a cuppla days ago. and i managed to fix it all by myself, woot woot! i was mentally slapping my own back and congratulating myself, and then my mind invariably led to porn [b/c ALL ROADS LEAD TO PR0NZ in case you were unaware]. and i thought, hey! wouldn't it be awesome if i became a legit plumber and i visited the homes of hot men and women and fixed their plumbing issues? and then REALLY fixed their plumbing issues? *lewd grin* what a wicked reversal of traditional roles! i was quite happy with the prospect b/c plumbing pays well and HELLO, HOT MEN AND WOMEN FOR ME TO OGLE [even though it means i'd have to tinker with dirty toilets, eww].
i dunno why i just shared all this with you lot. but yea. CHANGING TOPICS NOW.

DUDE. i have a MAJOR weakness for jealous/toppy!jensen, and nnnnfggg he is definitely both of those things in this fic. SUPER YUM! i love how jared just takes it, muhahah.

: j2. this one has jared watching joanna on dancing with the stars and having a not-so-little meltdown on the flight home. he's nutty and all over the place, and actually reminded me of faithwood's draco malfoy, so he's quite adorable.

: j2 au. OH MY GOD. i've been reading this story in little pieces since last week b/c i wanted to draw it out, and also b/c some things just hurt too much. now everyone knows how much of an angstwhore i am and usually i tend to gobble up stories with characters hurting, but this fic was different b/c it hit home a little too closely at times. i've been subjected to various forms of discrimination - most of which have been racial, sexist or religious in nature [been suffering from the last one for the past 7 years courtesy of
the bf's parents *eyeroll*] but at least i haven't had to directly face homophobia. some of my closest pals weren't that lucky and i know the kind of shit they've encountered both in and outside of their own homes. so yea, this fic definitely resonated on a number of different levels. and since i've been reading this mainly during my daily commute or at work, i've been trying to unobtrusively wipe my face quite a few times all week.
i teared up during the sad AND funny parts, and i really don't have the words to describe how much i love this story. i don't consider it j2 b/c the characters don't make me think of the actors at all, so it's really more like original fic for me. so if any of you are squicked out by RPS, i still urge you to think of this as a book you might pick up at the library or bookstore. PLEASE GIVE THIS FIC A CHANCE; YOU WON'T REGRET IT. everyone's been reccing this all over my flist, and the story deserves every piece of praise it receives.
the characterisation is utterly beautiful - i want to just gather up jensen and jared and never let them go. and jared's mum is simply AMAZING. HOLY SHIT. the dialogue is gripping and oh so touching, and the pacing is perfect - picking up when it needs to, and slowing down when details need to be hashed out. the funny moments will make you howl [i would adopt jared's friends with open arms ANY DAY], and the sad parts will make you bawl. the art by seventhpage is gorgeous as well. i think i might cry again just thinking of how perfect this fic is, so i'mma end this here.
12) leave my heart out of this by elless18
: j2 au. okay. the "fake boy/girlfriend / arranged marriage of convenience" theme is extremely common in bollywood films, and i've grown up making fun of it b/c it's usually incredibly typical and boring. once in a while, however, it's adorable, especially since there's the inevitable unrequited love on the part of one character, and the stories tend to have a schmoopy conclusion that leave you feeling good. although i spent a large chunk of my teen years making fun of this trope, i've recently realised that i actually secretly enjoy them quite a bit, especially in fandom, hehe. all of this is a long-winded way of me saying that i ADORED this fic! the seamless friendship between j2 is just amazing, and i loved the lengths the unrequited character was willing to go to to make things work. and yea, lots of schmoop and fluff and cuteness - all of which left me with a HUGE grin on my face once i was done
13) the glamorous life by rivkat
: wincest. god. i read this fic last week and it just blew my mind. it's about dean getting whammied by a succubus and the implications thereafter. it's dark, disturbing at times, definitely heartwrenching and full of angst, and the author has both sam and dean's voices down PAT. i couldn't stop reading the fic, and i highly recommend it. SO FUCKING GOOD.
14) only sweeter by rivkat
: wincest. yep, another one by the same author. i spent an entire day reading everything i could by her, heh. this one came heavily recced by perfumaniac, and THANK GOD SHE SENT IT MY WAY b/c this has become one of my fave wincest fics now. it features amnesiac!dean and omg. it's glorious. again, reading the fic made me feel like i was actually watching the show b/c the dialogue was spot on and the emotions each line evoked were exactly what i feel when i see the boys on screen. this fic is hilarious at times and downright adorable at others, and of course there's plenty of angst and heartache in this one too.
15) office space: an act in four parts by selecasharp
: wincest. hilarious and hot smut in which sam's a tad obsessed with the suspenders dean wore as "dean smith". there's no need to imagine what happens next b/c selecasharp does a great job of telling you about sam's ingenious plan
16) la belle dame sans merci by sylvanwitch
: wincest. stories set during "the mystery years" like this one always make me sad even if it's a fluffy fic. i dunno why! i guess sam's willing estrangement is a hard pill to swallow. anyhow, this fic is really gorgeous with many lovely turns of phrases, and beautiful imagery. what is especially striking is how sam and dean manage to reconnect immediately and understand each other's unfinished sentences and unsaid declarations despite being apart for so long.
17) a change of pace by kirschvanille
: wincest. OH OH OH. not body swapping per se, but close to it - this is SIZE KINK WITH A TWIST as the author so aptly mentions. and it's oh so very good. i'm just gonna say that i can TOTALLY understand how sam feels - my mouth was literally watering at times while i read this, guhhhh.
18) misunderestimate [make the pie higher remix] by extraonions
: wincest. this is a remix of misunderestimate by gretazreta [which i totally adore b/c it's the #1 type of angsty overwhelming fic i love the MOST]. extraonions' take on the story has a neat twist to it, which i haven't seen explored in other stories, and it was interesting to see how the plot developed. it made my heart ache in all the right ways even though it didn't leave me feeling quite as gutted as gretazreta's version did, and i love the way she weaved in details of various s4 episodes. the conclusion in the end was the perfect icing. definitely worth checking out!
19) only the good die young by smallcaps
: wincest. post-apocalyptic fic where dean is bored in heaven. loved the descriptions of heaven and heavenly activities through dean's eyes, and the ending in particular was fab. this needs to be canonised!
20) if it looks like winning, you haven't been by hateable
: wincest. coda to 5x02. lovely story with the boys apart from each other and trying to do what's required, trying not to miss each other so much, trying to keep saving people and hunting things. bittersweet and definitely feels like canon.
21) casting you in a different light by bemycasualty
: wincest. coda to 5x03, and y'know what? i could almost see this happening too. the fic is beautiful - terribly angsty with the boys just hurting and being too stubborn to fix themselves, but the ending? oh, the ending makes up for all the pain.
22) take me to my knees by loolookitty
: wincest. mm, possessive!sammy with a biting/marking!kink = UBER HOTNESS. made all the better by the obvious love and need sam has for dean, which made everything that much more meaningful and lovely.

4) joystiq interviews trent reznor: i only wish other musicians were as forward-thinking as my bb trent.In discussing why people steal music, Trent soberly notes that, "People aren't stealing music to make money. They steal because they love music." This isn't about bootlegging anymore. Accepting this, Reznor chose to engage his fans in a new way instead of fighting them:
"...that's why we released our recent records for free. That's why we came up with the pricing tiers that we did, giving people something that had value for their money if they wanted it. But we gave it away for those who aren't going to pay anyway and figured that maybe we can at least get their email address and let them know when our next record is coming out. Or, maybe, we can let them know when our next concert is coming up."
