Thank you both very much. The first time I watched BoB and saw the scenes in which Blythe is talked to, first by Welsh, then by Speirs, my thought was; "The officers around here can stop inspiring the men any time now!" But upon watching the scene between Blythe and Speirs at later intervals, I don't believe that Speirs was trying to frighten or intimidate Blythe in any way. His expression is almost tender (especially for Speirs), and he really believes that he is educating Blythe, telling the young trooper something Blythe needs to know. I tried to communicate that in this drabble (how successfully, I'm not sure), but for the reasons I've just given, that scene is one of my favorites. Sorry to babble on--thank you both very much for your feedback.

Once Blythe knows the secret, he will rule his fear, instead of letting the fear rule him. That's my favourite sentence. :)
I like this drabble very much. But I believe the right spelling of his name is Blithe. (?)
