A quick hello

Who: Lujayn, Rielsath, Zev
Where: West Bowl, HRW
When: Day 16, month 6, turn 26

Rielsath is impatient about benches. Lujayn catches Zev for a quick chat.

Zev whistles a bit to himself as he walks across the bowl, a wineskin slung over one shoulder and loaf of bread in the other hand. He gives out a few waves as he passes through on his way towards the lake.

Lujayn is taking advantage of the bowl's sun-soaked afternoon. Her hair and the edges of her shorts are damp from an apparent dragon-washing, as Rielsath's talons are being meticulously oiled just now. Seated cross-legged, the junior raises one hand in a friendly hello to Zev's wave. "Afternoon, Woodcrafter," The greeting is formal but her grin isn't much, face bending low again to get at the itchy underside of one golden paw.

Zev gives a wave over, "Afternoon weyrwoman, how is your beautiful queen fairing this warm day?" He diverts enough to walk closer for the bit of conversation.

"She's tip top shape, now that we're clean," Lujayn looks back up, rag working out the grit around a platinum claw with familiar ease. "And you? Looks like a picnic waiting to happen there," She nods to the wineskin and bread as Rielsath lowers her own head to watch the woodsmith from rider's-eye level, slightly curious to see why her oiling has slowed.

Zev grins a bit, "Well, a snack or a picnic, one or the other. I saw Zax land over near the lake so I was going to head over that way and see if Cori is feeling up for something like that. I could get more if you need a snack after your cleaning up?"

Lujayn shakes her head. "That's kind," She declines politely, "I need to finish up here and then get myself cleaned," A glance down at her oil-flecked, damp workclothes. "Then I'll see about something in the living caverns, or bring something up from the kitchen. It's been a busy day." Not wanting to push company away, however, she strikes out with a question: "What have you been doing today?"

Zev smiles as he drifts another step then pauses fully, "Mostly working on a comission that will get shipped south when I'm done with it, then back to working on some new benches for the inner caverns. Have the wood fitted and drying now, just needs some varnish."

"Benches," Lujayn brightens. "They're sorely needed. The whole Weyr'll appreciate that when you're done. What kind of designs?" She props her chin on one hand, rag returned to the oil bucket and Rielsath resigned to listening in on some boring whatever. Dragons don't sit on benches.

Zev grins a bit, "Very, very sturdy ones. I had to scrap a couple of chairs that some brownriders were using in some sort of vigorous activity. They called it falling down on them, but I suspect there was a bit more to it than that. Things around here take a lot of wear and tear, nothing cosmetic like some holders tend to have around."

Lujayn blinks. "Really, now." She scuttles back as Rielsath shifts, watching the dragon race across the bowl and take off, winging her way towards the rim of the bowl on a hazy updraft. "Guess that's my cue, Zev. Sorry." Rielsath settles along a ledge a big higher up, glowering sullenly. Lu shrugs helplessly and gathers up the oil bucket. "Work's got to get finished, and if I'm not after her she'll start thinking she can get away with it."

Zev chuckles and waves, "I know how that work is, it always manages to come first. Hope you get that dinner in weyrwomn!" Then he turns and with a resumption of his whistled tune heads on towards the lake.
