I'll go with The Charioteer by Mary Renault even though I haven't re-read it lately and am not sure if I enjoy Renault's writing style at quite the level I used to. My second choice would be Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, which you can read online in Russian or English here.
For comics, The Authority -- probably Ellis and Hitch's run, but I haven't finished Abnett, Lanning, and Colby's run yet as I'm waiting for the trades. In Batman-related comics, it's a tossup between Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth by Grant Morrison and Gotham Central's run in general with Brubaker, Rucka, and Lark.
