Al's critic corner
So, I saw "The Spirit" over the weekend. Yes, it was from the same people that brought us 300 and Sin City. Even though they were great movies, I'm actually getting a little tired of that black and white plus one other color stuff. I thought the choice of leading man was weak too. They should have found another pretty faced actor with smaller hips and broader shoulders wearing tighter suits. If you've seen the comics, you'd know what I'm talking about. Now, the comic had some unusual humor and, the movie did too. At first, a lot of it seemed pretty stupid but, I did warm up to it and actually laughed out loud a couple of times. I liked that it made a good try at recreating the style of the comic. I also really liked what I saw of Eva Mendes too. In general, I thought it was a 3 on a scale of 1 to 5. So, it's not a bad movie but, as far as a superhero movies go, that 3 sucks. I think if you didn't have anything to do, you could enjoy this movie but, don't expect anything like Sin City or Iron Man.
