CHAPTER 7
_________________
Yuki felt like his heart stopped for a second, everything was silent with the exception of his own breath moving quickly in and out of his nose. The sound rang in his ears, he felt like he was drowning, and almost instinctively he began to lean upwards. Of course, he stopped again almost instantly, recalling that he wasn’t actually drowning and also what it was that was keeping him stuck where he was on the floor -besides gravity. Yukihiro gulped, Hyde was watching him intently with slightly glazed eyes, waiting for him to do something, searching for some indication of what he was thinking…
Yukihiro didn’t even know what he was thinking. If he could draw a picture of his mind at that moment it would be a big empty white space, with perhaps a red exclamation mark buzzing around anxiously in the middle. He blinked rapidly, forcing himself not to let his thoughts stray and instead focus on what the hell he should do now. He didn’t want to do something stupid and cause them both problems. He opened his mouth, but could think of nothing he wanted to come out of it… What did Hyde want him to say?! This was all very unexpected! But, he supposed, Hyde didn’t want him to say anything… Though he’d stated quite clearly what he wanted the drummer to do.
Another instant passed, Yukihiro’s mind whirled, looking for another idea, another option… As usual, he was drawing blanks.
His pulse thudded in his ears as he leaned up slowly, almost so slowly that the motion wasn’t noticeable, almost. Hyde was breathing quickly too, he could feel his warm breath sweeping across his own face now, there was almost no space left between them… Their bottom lips brushed, barely touching each other, and he hesitated. However, the empty space in his mind couldn’t even function well enough to say ‘back off! Hide in the corner!’, so he pushed himself up just the slightest bit further, pressing their lips together carefully, but firmly.
It was weird. It felt really weird, but not in a bad way… necessarily.
Hyde’s lips were warm, a little chapped but mostly soft, and they tasted strongly of booze and faintly of cigarettes. That wasn’t a bad combination, the drummer decided, pulling back slightly as he contemplated this and then pressing back again. Hyde seemed to respond then, moving back against him. They were otherwise still, balanced precariously against one another and limited by that fact. Their kisses were slow, light, and questioning, in a curious sort of manner. Just tasting, feeling, and reveling in the fact that they were experiencing each other in such a strange, new and intimate way.
Gradually they slowed, ceasing to pull back, and Hyde parted his lips, carefully coaxing the drummer’s mouth open enough to deepen the kiss. Their positions made this difficult and so, still just going with the flow, Yukihiro eased himself back down to his elbows, and Hyde moved so that he was holding himself up with hands on the floor to either side of the drummer.
With this he was much more blatantly straddling the blonde. He spared one hand to reach up and run through the drummer’s short, spiked hair, threading the blonde strands between his fingers and tugging gently to tilt his head back. The action caused Yukihiro to break from the kiss with a soft gasp, exposing much of his throat. The offering was too hard to resist, and Hyde wasn’t trying to anyway. He began kissing, licking, and nibbling his way down the pale skin, biting just enough to sting at the junction of neck and shoulder and appreciating the small noises the drummer was making beneath his ministrations.
“Nnn… Hyde, wait. Stop, you’re making me all….”He bit his lip, holding back a low moan as Hyde shifted his weight and laved his tongue over his bite mark.
“You don’t like it when I do this to you?” Hyde whispered, lips not fully leaving the drummer’s sweat-damp skin. The temperature in the closet certainly seemed to be rising. Hyde’s hand moved from the drummer’s hair to slide up beneath his shirt.
Yukihiro’s eyes fluttered at the contact and he tried not to breathe too heavily. “Hyde… we’re drunk. I’m drunk… We shouldn’t… be…- ahhh…” He hissed as Hyde dragged his nails across the muscle-rippled skin of his chest.
“You’re not drunk.” Hyde argued.
“Well… a little…”
“But you can still make judgments, right?” Hyde bent down to kiss him on the lips again. “You really do want me right now… right?”
“I… well… but, Hyde… this is really sudden, don’t you think? You’re g-great, really, and I-“ He took a deep breath, trying to both ignore and prevent Hyde from undoing his belt for him. “Y-you’ve had too much to drink. You’re drunk, aren’t you? You drank almost a- s-stop that- all of that vodka!”
Hyde pouted, having undone the front of Yukihiro’s pants but being unable to get them down if the drummer was refusing to raise his hips. “Why aren’t you really turned on? I’m more turned on than you are for some reason!”
“Hyde, I don’t want to do this now. Next time, but not when you’re this drunk.”
Hyde stood up promptly, with the idea in mind that stripping might change Yukihiro's mind. Unfortunately, the alcohol caught up with him abruptly fast, he lost his balance and nearly fell sideways. Instead, Yukihiro reached out and grabbed his wrist, tugging him down so that the vocalist collapsed on him instead of into the wall or directly onto the floor. “Oof… what-…?“ Strong, wiry arms wrapped around him and held him close. He couldn’t get away, but he was so comfortable that he didn’t really want to anyhow.
“We’re not having sex until you’re sober enough to remember it.” Yukihiro’s deep, slightly flustered voice rumbled quietly beside him, and though Hyde’s initial reaction was to be disappointed, a soft smile ended up on his features instead.
“… You mean we can try this again?”
“…Mm.” Yukihiro grunted softly, a wordless affirmation.
Hyde paused, snuggling a little closer and hiding his face in the drummer’s neck. “…Even if I say that I’m probably in love with you?”
For a moment the drummer was completely silent, but then he turned, pulling the small vocalist a little closer and closing his eyes against the light above. “Especially if you say that.”
Warm and cuddly, with the radio playing a soft hum of noise in the background, sleep came easily to the two of them.
…
The morning, on the other hand, was spent banging on the door and wall, shouting for someone to come let them out and wishing they weren’t both suffering from hangovers at the same time. It was Tetsu who woke up and heard them, Ken who found the key, and by eight forty-three, Hyde was standing behind the controls and throwing them into high speed.
“HYDE!” Tetsu shouted over the shuddering roar of the engine, clinging to the railing and squinting at the spray flying in his direction. “SLOW DOWN!”
“CAN’T!” Hyde yelled back, entirely focused on maneuvering the water in front of them. “WE’VE ONLY GOT…” He glanced at the clock and the numbers changed. “…Shit! WE’VE ONLY GOT FIFTEEN MINUTES!”
Holding onto every stable object he could, Yukihiro made his way slowly up to Hyde’s side. “Can’t we go a little slower? The boat is vibrating! There are no lifeboats! I don’t want to drown…”
Hyde grinned confidently at him, taking a hand from the wheel long enough to pet the blonde on his shoulder. “Don’t worry. I’ve got this under-“
“BUOY!” Ken hollered, holding tight to Tetsu’s arm with one hand and digging through his coat for his cigarettes with the other.
Hyde swerved, narrowly missing the floating marker, and everyone swayed dangerously to the left and then right as he righted them again. “…under control…” He muttered, grimacing and returning his full attention to steering.
The minutes ticked by, and no matter how fast he pushed the vessel to go, it was apparent that they wouldn’t quite make it back in time.
“He’s going to kill me!” Hyde moaned despairingly as nine o’clock came and passed.
“Just don’t kill his boat!” Yuki warned. “He’ll strangle you for it!”
Hyde’s eyes widened and he slowed them down just a notch. “Good point…”

Gackt strode purposefully down onto his private dock, dressed all in black, and accessorized with a bulletproof vest, dark sunglasses, binoculars, an earpiece, and a walkie-talkie. He lifted the binoculars to his eyes, observed the horizon (not much of one since he was situated in a bit of a small cove), and picked up the walkie-talkie. “Come in, BlackHawk727.”
Not twenty feet away, at the other end of the wharf, one of his burly black bodyguards turned around, frowning at him and picking up his own walkie-talkie. “…Yes, KingKobra466?” He questioned carefully. All of Gackt’s staff knew better than to question their boss’s eccentricities.
“Are preparations complete?”
“They are, sir.”
“Get ready to commence the operation!” He stuffed the walkie-talkie into his pocket and raised his voice, calling all of his staff to attention. “Dearest crew! You’re all like family to me, so I will not hide the truth from you. This venture of ours may be long, arduous, and frightfully detrimental to your mental and physical well-beings, and I want you to know that no matter how long and far we have to travel, regardless of what we have to brave, no matter how many of you are lost to the depths of the sea along the way,” nervous looks were exchanged, “we will stop at NOTHING to rescue Hyde from whatever peril has befallen him. Do you all understand me, my brethren? We partake on this mission together, as a brotherhood, a unity of souls all devoted to one cause, one person, one beautiful angel who deserves to be rescued from the fires of an unknown hell by our noble hands-“
“-LOOK!” Shouted one crewmember from the back of the anxious group.
Gackt scowled. “Excuse me, but I was talk-“ He broke off on his own this time, following the direction the crewmember was turned to face and gasping loudly at the sight of his boat speeding around the mouth of the little cove, and headed in their direction. “It’s them… It’s Hyde! ...Men!” He looked around wildly. “Make ready for them to dock!”
Crewmembers scurried in all directions, helping tie the boat down to the wharf as it came to a stop and then lining up in two rows to either side of the wooden walkway, standing tall and saluting as the boat’s engine was cut and its passengers staggered shakily down the gangplank. Ken and Tetsu got off first, bowing their thanks to the black clad soloist before rushing to where the cars were parked, still fighting off some serious sea-sickness. Hyde came after them, bracing himself for the worst and hoping to get it over with quickly.
“Hyde!” Gackt exclaimed, striding up to the shorter man with purpose. “Do you realize you are nearly thirteen minutes later than you should be?!”
“Sorry…” Hyde ducked his head sheepishly. “Everything got a little out of hand… Tetsu and Ken were… unavailable… and we ended up spending the night together in your storage closet.”
Gackt’s brows knitted together. “…’We’?”
Yuki came up behind the shorter vocalist, looking more than a little shaken and disheveled from the wild ride and tentatively taking Hyde’s hand. “Can we go?”
Hyde nodded, grinning broadly and turning to Gackt again. “Sorry.” He repeated. “But I’m pretty sure we cleaned everything up, so… See ya!” He slipped past the taller vocalist hurriedly, not giving him a chance to respond and tugging Yukihiro along behind him.
“Clea-… But… but….” Gackt stammered, turning to watch in bewilderment as Hyde leant up to kiss the skinny drummer on the cheek and whisper in his ear.
“Hey, we’re both sober now... Right?” Hyde whispered cheekily, grinning and brushing away his insecurities as he watched Yuki’s cheeks turn bright red.
Gackt fell slowly to his knees as his crew watched on in alarm. “I have failed…” He stated into the empty air. “Alas, my fair Hyde has already been conquered by another! My love wasn’t strong enough to reach him in time…” He frowned deeply down at himself. “I must increase the intensity of my training!”
“But sir, you’re already-“
“Silence! This is the path I have devoted myself to! I cannot fail now! Hyde will be MINE~!” he shouted, throwing his fist violently up into the air.
“U-um… Yeah…” Yukihiro answered Hyde’s question, glancing back over his shoulder at the loud, mournful cry reaching their ears from the wharf.
“Don’t mind him. He’ll get over it.” Hyde beamed, almost skipping as he laced their fingers together properly and tugged him towards the cars. “Come on then. My place is closest.”
Yuki chuckled awkwardly, nodding and getting into the passenger seat. “But… lets not rush this time. We can take it slow, can’t we?”
Hyde nodded, easing them out and after Tetsu’s car onto the main road. Whether Yukihiro was talking about the drive, the sex, or their relationship didn’t matter. Hyde had every intention of taking his time, and savoring every bit of every moment. Their hands stayed together over the gearshift, and Hyde couldn’t stop smiling. The band was doing fine, his friends were all getting along, they had the concerts of their lives coming up on the horizon, and the man he’d pined secretly over for years was gladly holding his hand. Life had never been better, and those brilliant days to come-he was sure- would be truly unforgettable.
