Since I'm "mostly" finished digitizing the audio cassettes in the Tape and Record Show archives, I'm occasionally digitizing old vinyl LPs in my collection which I never bought a reissue of on CD, or were never released on CD. Tonight's project was the 1980 soundtrack to "Caddyshack" on Columbia Records.

On the old cassette I digitized the other evening, old friend Paul Morrison mentioned a Merle Haggard album where he performed songs by Jimmie Rodgers. I have a Merle Haggard album where he sings Elvis Presley songs, and I thought it'd be nice to own the Jimmie Rodgers album also, so I went on Discogs and found a reasonably priced "very good" ( Read more... )

If you were to tell me around ten years ago I'd be buying vinyl records again, after not buying any since the mid to late 1980's, I would have called you crazy. However, since turntables are back on the market, and a large vinyl resurgence has happened, I've found myself buying records again. After digitizing the final four "broadcast" episodes of "TRS Presents" this evening, I finished digitizing the "theme musics" used for the nine seasons of the "flagship" Tape and Record Show Enterprises series "The Tape and Record Show", from the original LPs, 45's, and one CD reissue, without my annoying voice announcing things over them. Another old LP from the local library I had made an inferior copy of onto cassette back in the late 1970's, and used some of the songs as interstitials on some "Tape and Record Show" episodes to pad them out to a full half hour during the second "season", I finally got a physical copy of today in the mail. I think I may be going down a "rabbit hole". While digitizing my old cassettes, I've been reminded of albums I checked out of the library in the late 1970's and recorded onto cheap cassettes, using a cheap portable turntable with a built-in speaker, and recorded onto a cheap portable monophonic cassette recorder with an external microphone.
