Boring Life So Far

Since Andrew moved into the trailer mom lived in next door before I moved her in with me after her retirement, the room he stayed in has mostly been unused, except for the internet modem and router being based there, since he was the one who decided to switch to cable internet. I was using DSL up until then.

Mom and my son were here for a few years. Mom rented out the trailer to a cousin for extra income. Trailer was put next door after my grandparents on dad's side of the family's house was torn down due to age in the late 1970's. The trailer was bought by my parents in 1986, for my mom's parents to move into. They had been renting various houses for ages before then. After the cousin moved out, my son moved into the trailer. Condition of the trailer is terrible after all these years, but son has made enough improvements on his own to make it "livable", at least for him, and I'm not charging rent. He's there if I need him for something, and vise versa.

As for the mostly unused room in the house, it needs work itself. There's a small hole in the floor which developed when Andrew's bed was in there, from one of the bedposts. His room was over the sinkhole under the house which was the result of the original builders in 1963 leaving a tree stump under the house. It has since rotted away, and now, every rain, a puddle of water stands under that area of the house as a result, rotting the floor due to evaporation. This has leaked into the back part of the hallway, I've placed a cut plank of wood over the "soft spots" to keep anyone (or me) from falling through eventually, since the thermostat is at the end of the hall.

It would cost WAY more than I have on my SSI income to get those issues fixed, since for some reason, they don't allow over $2000/month in assets. How they expect someone to cover emergencies is beyond me! If mom were still here, those issues MIGHT have been fixable, she added her social security and retirement pay into the mix.
Currently however, unless I win a lottery from the two tickets I buy a week, don't see my way out of this mess. Yes, I pay for a few subscription services, nothing expensive, but I need SOME "entertainment" since I'm stuck at home most of the time due to health.

home, family, repairs
