The cheap recording I made from an LP "The Voice of Will Rogers" checked out of the local library in the late 1970's now has a far better sounding transfer as of this evening. Granted, those recordings on the record will never sound "great", since they were from the early 1930's. New transfer is from an until today sealed version of that LP, opened to digitize, since the album has sentimental value since the cuts were used as interstitials on the earliest "Tape and Record Show" "broadcasts".
Original copy was from the worn library copy recorded with a mono portable cassette recorder from a portable record player with a mono speaker in 1979. Seem to remember the library version having a slight warp. I got a sealed copy of the record, released in 1973, from an online retailer recently for less than $15. No warps, first time played with this digitization, and run through sound cleaning software.
People say how topical George Carlin is today, but after re-listening to the Will Rogers LP, even he is still topical since the 1930's.
