This evening, I digitized a few rare "compilation" episodes of the "flagship" Tape and Record Show Enterprises series, "The Tape and Record Show", from 1981...
"The Tape & Record Show: Episode 229. Broadcast Friday, June 5,1981 at 5:00pm central. Theme Music: Asteroid Field(John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra). Third season sneak preview. A look at the upcoming season schedule.
The Tape & Record Show: Episode 235. Broadcast Tuesday, June 30,1981 at 5:00pm central. Theme Music: Mean Woman Blues(Elvis Presley). "Elvis Presley Show/Life of Elvis Sneak Preview" - This premiere episode of these two new series brings you scenes of upcoming features. Hosts: Albert Sims and Randy Haney. Scenes feature: from the movies "Elvis" and "Loving You", "The Elvis Presley Show" songs, and "Life of Elvis" dialogue.
The Tape & Record Show: Episode 247. Broadcast Thursday, July 23,1981 at 5:00pm central. Theme Music: Soap Theme. "Best of Soap" - Scenes from the past 13 episodes: Burt and Sol in Mexico, Danny searching for Polly, the man from Child Welfare investigates Jodie's house, Chester and Jessica at the minister's office, and Jessica goes to George's apartment while is wife is there."
What makes these episodes "rare" is due to a few factors. First, I just recently rediscovered the tapes in the "archives". Thought they were "lost" until now. Second, I do a lot of announcing in episodes 229 and 235, which is odd for me to talk THAT much on a tape at the time (my voice sounded "silly" at age 15). Third, the way I had to make a "compilation" episode at the time. I was still at the point I was recording on portable monophonic cassette recorders with an external mic, but I had two of them at the time, so I played the tape I was recording clips from in one machine, and recorded it with the microphone onto the other machine. Sound quality wise, the result was FAR from "spectacular", but these recordings are what they are. My "announcements" are considerably better sounding than the clips, since I was talking directly into the mic and wasn't "dubbed".
Also, I digitized two "Mark Russell Comedy Special" episodes of "The Tape and Record Show" from season three, since I stumbled across the tapes while digging through the archives, and they actually were labeled with dates so I could figure out which episodes they were included in...
"The Tape & Record Show: Episode 238. Broadcast Tuesday, July 7,1981 at 5:00pm central. Theme Music: New Asteroid Field(John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra). "Mark Russell Comedy Special" - The political comedian talks about chain of command, taxes, and consultants.
The Tape & Record Show: Episode 276. Broadcast Tuesday, September 15,1981 at 5:00pm central. Theme Music: New Asteroid Field(John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra). "Mark Russell Comedy Special" - The political comedian talks about the Libya attack, Med-flies, and the controller's strike."
Note: The third season episodes of "The Tape and Record Show" won't be digitized in "broadcast order", instead, they will be transferred in order of "convenience", since it was the first season with somewhat of a weekly series schedule.
