Geesh! WTF Was WRONG With Us Back In The Day??

Just finished the digital conversion of four more of the old 1980's Tape & Record Show Enterprises recordings we made. Tonight, it was the one hour "pilot" and the first three regular episodes of "Paul's Country Corral" hosted by old friend Paul Morrison.

So far, a couple VERY "cringeworthy" moments in the pilot and first episode. Let me just say, I'm glad opinions and morals change after a few decades pass, at least for ME personally they have, can't really comment on Paul. Haven't seen or heard from him in a few years.

First "cringeworthy" moment was, near the close of the pilot episode, Paul decides to play a song from an old 45rpm single in MY collection. I didn't personally buy the record, it was one dad acquired from a certain "organization" he was a member of in the 1950's/60's. Not going to say much publicly about that record, just that it was NEVER sold in stores, and only produced by that certain "organization" for distribution to its members. I never put it on ANY other TRSE production. The record is downright offensive in ANY decade. Paul mentions he isn't "prejudice" before the song starts, but makes an offhanded "prejudice" remark right before the song starts. Luckily, that pilot episode was only "aired" once, as part of the 1985/86 annual TRSE overnight "New Year's Celebration". I believe this evening was the first time I've listened to it since the original recording session/editing processing from back then. Also, later in the show, the tape deck "pitch control" was obviously used a bit in editing, to "trim" the episode down a tad to fit in the final time slot of that evening/morning, since TRSE had a "hard out" on those New Year's overnight marathons.

Second "cringeworthy" moment was close to the beginning of episode one. Not QUITE as bad as what was done in the pilot, but Paul brings up the "Challenger" disaster which happened a couple weeks before the episode was "broadcast". He makes a brief comment about people being upset about that "damn shuttle" and he was going to play a song to try and cheer them up.

Contents of the four episodes converted this evening, as described on the original index card "broadcast" files, although that one song title wasn't "redacted" on the old original handwritten card...

Note: I didn't "edit" the offensive parts from the digitation of the original recordings due to "historical context". I haven't agreed with them for decades, but unlike Disney and Warner Brothers, I prefer to leave things as originally produced. Things can be learned from past mistakes. Then again, this was a "hobby" back then, not a mass produced commercial venture.

digitization, political incorrectness, fake radio shows, audio cassettes, trse, tape and record show enterprises, paul morrison, regrets
