Looking back at my journal which I started about 30 years ago... My July 31, 1986 entry had a bit to do with music. That's something that hasn't changed much in 30 years... my interest in music...
Thursday, July 31, 1986, 5:26pm... journal entry (when I was 21):
"I subscribe to the RCA music service and I got one of their things in the mail today. I decided to buy a Kinks greatest hits album. I only have one of the songs on it already. I'm a 1/2 price member so it'll only cost me about $6.50 for two records (double album).
I have a pretty big record collection. I'm not sure how many. I'm curious, tho, so I'll go down and count them... I counted about 165...
I've had a few "favorite" groups over the years. First, I liked the Beatles. I bought just about all their records, including their solo albums made after 1970. I sort of got tired of them, but I still like them. I'm presently reading a biography of John Lennon written by Ray Coleman. It's O.K. but not great.
After the Beatles, my favorite group or band was The Clash. Combat Rock was my first Clash album.
Next, my favorite band was the Doors. I got to like the Doors at UMass. A lot of my friends up there like the Doors.
Now, my favorite group is Run-D.M.C. I love rap music. I don't know why.
Besides Run-D.M.C., the Beatles, the Doors, the Clash, and the Kinks, my favorite groups or artists are the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, the Byrds, The Who, Stevie Wonder, L.L. Cool J., John Lennon, Yoko Ono, George Harrison, Prince, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, the B-52's, Queen, and the Grateful Dead...
