Lennon and McCartney

John Lennon

Who doesn't like John Lennon ?  Especially as he's dead.  And I'm no exception... and neither are my wives.  So, it's with great pleasure that I induct him as one of the 10 founding members of DRAHoF (that's Darrin's Recording Artist Hall of Fame).

Lennon has been an important part of my life, as, for one thing, he's been a common interest of mine and both of my wives, past and present.  He's mostly everyone's favorite Beatle, altho I sometimes prefer George...  and certainly both Franci and Linda have always been crazy about John.  Trips to New York City include, at the top of the list of things to do, a pilgrimage to Strawberry Fields in Central Park.  In fact, when I went there with Linda, she adamantly defended his honor when we overheard a passing tour guide make misstatements such as "Strawberry Fields is where John lived as a boy" and "Imagine is a Beatles song"...  Linda really let the tour guide have it for that...

I admired Lennon for his wit, his musical ability, his artistic confessional honesty and his political activism.  The world lost so much on that December day in 1980.

Paul McCartney

It would be rude not to include Paul in the list of 10 founding inductees into DRAHoF.  Especially when George as well as John are both in it.  Ringo will have to wait it out, tho, I'm afraid, to perhaps be inducted sometime down the line...

I've never been a huge fan of Paul McCartney or even of his music.  I find him a bit too eager to please the grannies of the world with his silly love songs and maxwell hammers...  But I recognise that he's played an important role in my life, and that's what DRAHoF is all about.

What I like best about Paul, tho, is his love of animals and love of family.  With his late wife, Linda McCartney, he was a committed vegetarian and animal rights activist... something that my wife Linda particularly has in common with him.  McCartney has brought up his family in a simple and loving way for someone who is so wealthy.  Linda and I, in fact, once went to his farm near the Mull of Kintyre where we talked about sheep with one of his farm hands.  If Linda and I were rich, we'd probably keep a farm like him where all the animals are allowed to live out their lives happily.
