- Princess Margaret dies (shortly afterward).
- Redundancies at work (BAE Systems, Glasgow). This is due to a gap in orders between the Type 23 frigates and the first of the Type 45 destroyers.
- Linda's parents celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
- W refers to Iraq, Iran and North Korea as the Axis of Evil.
- Winter Olympics are going on in Salt Lake City.
