Title: Last Choice
Theme: July Writing Prompt #14 - July 30
Prompt: betrayal and forgiveness/reconciliation
Author: alaylith
Rating: PG
Universe: BBC
Characters: Sherlock, John
WordCount: 345
Summary: Sherlock feels betrayed.

A/N: So, the last of the July prompts and so far I managed to connect them all. :) And the story is not finished yet! The next are the amnesty prompts, but as I will be away from 3rd-5th (and have a lot to prepare the next few days) it may be that I am going to finish the amnesty prompts some time next week.

If I am not able to finish the story with the amnesty prompts, do not worry - I will finish the story on my own then. ;)

But there is not much left, so there is the chance that the amnesty prompts will be enough (depending what they are and how they fit).
I can't wait to finally reveal what is bothering John, but I will keep that a secret as long as possible. :b

And I really need new icons, four Sherlock Holmes icons are not enough. :/

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Above everything else Sherlock feels betrayed.
It is not really so much that John hid the truth or that he lied or that it is about him.
No… as Sherlock stares at John, how John has lowered his eyes, how John’s hand still rests on the fresh hidden scar, how John’s eyes are dark and sad and full of pain…
No, what Sherlock feels most betrayed about is that John really thinks that Sherlock does not care.
While it’s true that Sherlock does not care about most things as long as they are not connected to his work - he thought it was obvious that John does not belong to those things.
That JOHN is a category of his own and no common rule of Sherlock applies for him.
He thought John knew that, especially after that night and the long days and nights after that.
But he does not, John had to suffer because he did not know and Sherlock will not accept that.
And remembering John’s last outburst, Sherlock knows how he can tell John.
< There was no way, I had no other choice! >
“If ever…,” Sherlock begins and John startles at the words after the long silence which filled the room.
“If anything like this ever happens again, I want you to know that you always have one last choice.”
John looks up with a haunted look, his eyes dark and resigned. “Which is?”
Sherlock steps forward and tries to hide a wince when John tenses. Slowly Sherlock raises his arms and gently wounds them around John’s shoulders, pulling him against his chest and hugging him tightly.
For a few seconds John is totally tense and unresponsive, but with a single exhaled breath his body relaxes and his head rests on Sherlock’s shoulder.
Sherlock holds him for a moment longer, before he nudges him back a bit and looks him deeply in the eyes, glad to see a small warm twinkle returned to them.
“If anything ever happens, you will come to ME and I will be looking for a way.”
