The Flying Scotsman

I just got back from seeing "The Flying Scotsman" in the cinema - I really liked it. It's always difficult to get good dramatic pace in a true-story film, but they did very well with this one. I liked that the serious issues were raised but not wallowed in, and the triumphs were there but they weren't over the top. I thought JLM did a great job - again, not too dramatic and not too understated. And Brian Cox is always a joy to watch (I remember him as Henry II in "The Devil's Crown" - frightening to think that it was nearly 30 years ago).

My only problem with the film was that I was so happy to see Billy on screen again that I never really saw Malky. I think I'll have to go and see it again. The blue kilt is definitely worth re-visiting!

Edit: there were some good trailers - "The Golden Age", which looks sumptuous (though I have my doubts about Elizabeth ever wearing plate armour), and "Death at a Funeral", which I am definitely going to see as soon as it's released.

films, billy
