Happy New Year!

2014 Year in Review

It was a frustrating year for me in many ways. Work was overwhelming for most of the year, which meant that creativity dropped off considerably. I did manage to finish and post a couple of stories and I've also written a few short fics in the SGINA-verse which I haven't posted yet. My overall word total is almost 85,000. but somehow it feels a lot less. I'd say that by and large this year has been disappointing for writing. Of the four works I listed as priorities a year ago, I only finished and posted two (and one of them is now back in the revision pile). I did post a few short fics but nothing really coherent.

I started watching ice hockey after the Sochi Olympics in February -- it's the first time I've ever been involved in a sports fandom and I'm not sure how long it will last, but I'm enjoying it, even if I still don't know all that much about the game (though my medical expertise has come in handy a couple of times discussing the NHL mumps epidemic).

kapuahi and I went on our Intercontinental Convention Caper (IC3) in August-September which was excellent (though I still haven't posted any of the photos) and we're planning to have another go this year. I'm trying to get a few more days in Vancouver this time so we can see a little more of the city and surrounding countryside. I really loved that I could go outside without 40 SPF sunblock all over my face and arms; such a change from Australia.

The new World of Warcraft expansion hit in November and I'm really enjoying it. Coincidentally I had major, major computer problems and ended up getting both a new laptop and a new gaming rig. That has delayed my character levelling but I made a bit of progress over the Christmas break and I should have my first 100 very shortly … well, sometime in January (I hope).

Plans for 2015

1. Retirement!!!! I can't wait.

2. Keep posting. The monthly update went well until November, but succumbed to a "perfect storm" of events comprising work overload, sore joints, computer problems and the new WoW expansion. I'll continue the monthly update in 2015, and I have a meme for the first half of next year that should boost the number of posts.

3. Write more. Without the mental and physical exhaustion from work, I should be able to improve my writing speed. Posting updates to
onedeadplotbunny worked pretty well most of the year, so I'll rejoin for 2015, plus I've also joined
inkingitout which I suspect will align better with the usual way I do things. Priority works:
-- The Stars My Destination part 2 (5K/10K, I'm beginning to think that I need a bit of help with this one)
-- PU2 Despite Reason (57K/80K done, but it really needs some work in the second half)
-- 2DZ1 Go West (17K/50K, I keep writing timestamps instead of working on the main story)

4. Get at least three characters to 100 in World Of Warcraft. I love the new expansion (though the garrison is becoming irksome) and I'll have a lot more time to explore and gain a few achievements too.

5. Get fitter. This should be a little easier after I've retired when I don't have to cope with the physical issues at the office. Losing weight would be nice too but getting fitter is the main priority.

6. IC3-2015 edition. SPN VanCon in August, followed by HawaiiCon in September. Should be a blast.
