Not much is said about her, but just knowing she could restrain the worst of Fëanor’s temper was enough to make me respect her.

I assumed Elves tended to prefer long hair so they could show it off better. Besides, as far as I remember most times the length of the hair was described it was long. But short hair is very convenient; she probably cut it one day, frustrated that it kept interfering with her work. My version of Nerdanel is that way: simple hairstyle, simple clothes (easy to work with), little jewelry…Fëanor’s vanity was more than enough for one house :P
