*wince*
Er... Not-happy! ahead? I did mean to write a sequel to this sometime, and fix it...

Title: Shatter
Fandom: Digimon
Pairing: Davis/Ken, mention of TK/Kari
Rating: G
Theme: #92, Jealousy

He almost misses it, the kiss is so fleeting; one second Kari is smiling as she says goodbye, the next she is pulling away from Davis, who has a goofy grin on his face. It’s only a kiss on the cheek, but Ken feels the familiar burn of jealousy in his chest.

He hides it well, saying his own goodbyes as if nothing is wrong, ignoring the possessive voice in the back of his head that urges him to make some sort of declaration of ownership. Davis takes his hand as they walk out, which mollifies him somewhat. He still snaps at his boyfriend when he’s asked where he wants to go, and Davis looks at him with surprise in his brown eyes.

“What’s up with you?”

Ken can’t keep the words from spilling from his mouth.

“Why don’t you ask Kari to help you figure it out?” he says, and immediately bites his tongue. That doesn’t even make sense. But Davis seems to get something out of it, as his eyes narrow with comprehension.

“You’re mad because she kissed me, right?”

Ken opens his mouth to deny and quickly shuts it again. There’s no point in arguing when the rational part of his brain is making it clear that he is being horribly obvious. Davis pulls his hand away and crosses his arms.

“That’s just stupid, Ken! You know we don’t like each other like that! She has T.K., and I have you. She was just being friendly!”

“Do I know that?” Ken asks, and the words are like a fountain of water bubbling up from a reservoir of doubt deep in his core. “You…” He doesn’t know how to continue, how to articulate his feelings. Davis scowls and stops walking.

“Fuck, Ken! What kind of person do you think I am? I wouldn’t have asked you out if I still liked her!”

“I…”

The anger is gone as quickly as it appeared, and Davis runs a hand through his hair as he sighs. Ken still can’t find words, and shame spreads through his stomach and his limbs, his fingers gaining a numb sort of weightlessness. A waiting silence stretches between them, lengthens and becomes tenuous with the things that aren’t said, stretching thinner and thinner as passerby jostle them and glare at the boys who are taking up half the walkway, motionless and staring.

When the silence finally shatters, it’s not a loud outburst. It’s quiet words, a defeated slump.

“I’m going home. I’ll see you later, Ken.”

And Ken can only watch as Davis turns away, words that he can’t say building in his throat, choking him with their broken edges.
