I have really been getting into the
Torchwood TV series and Captain Jack Harkness, the lead of its ensemble cast, played by
John Barrowman. Barrowman plays a dreamy man from the 51st Century, who has very few sexual hangups and is attracted to people of many genders, sexes, skin colors, and even members of alien races. And they're usually attracted to him, too.
I have been avidly trying to catch up on all the episodes of Torchwood, and now of the Doctor Who episodes in which Captain Jack appeared (Companion in the latter part of 2005).
I love Captain Jack's good looks and how easily and well he relates with people to whom he is attracted and who are attracted to him. And as someone who loves language, I am intrigued by the fact that John Barrowman grew up in both Scotland and the US. On screen, he speaks with a US accent, but with family and friends he speaks with a Scottish accent. Fascinating. :) He's also queer and has been with his partner, Scott Gill, since 1993.
I also love that Captain Jack has apparently been tremendously popular with all demographics, including young children. He was so popular in his 5-episode appearance as a Companion of Doctor Who that an entire spinoff series (Torchwood) was built around him. It's great to know that there is an onmisexual character onscreen and that he is so very popular among such a wide range of people!
Fanboy go "squee!".
Enough for now.
