Transfer deadline day madness

Feb 02, 2011 00:07

What a weekend the past few days have been. Honestly, my eating and sleeping habits were shot to hell. My moods swung like a pendulum. I do not know how I made it through. And I honestly wondered, on several occasions, why the hell I was putting so much stock into everything. This time last year I wouldn't have taken more than a passing interest in it all. I mean, don't get me wrong, I've been supporting Liverpool avidly for the past 12 and a half years, but during the last few years I've not been really into it. It's only since the World Cup that I've got back into it as much as when I was at school.

But yeah, was heavily invested for the dramas of the last few days, which thankfully came to a dramatic conclusion last night.

Let me just state briefly my thoughts on Torres. I don't want to go on too much because as a subject, for me, it has drained me a lot over the last few days.

I loved Torres. I thought he was a brilliant player. I thought that he knew and embraced what it meant to be a Red. I thought after the drama-lama in the Summer and the infamous World Cup-Liverpool scarf picture, that he would be a Liverpool player for at least another year.

So when he handed in that transfer request on Friday night I felt heartbroken and betrayed. And when it raged on over the weekend and then eventually all led to his actual sale to Chelsea, I felt upset, but by this time I was resigned and knew it was his time to go. I was dealing with it fine. Was even prepared to wish him well, etc etc. But then we had that interview late last night, where he basically spat LFC out, shat on it, and ground it into the dirt.

The Chelsea fans will never embrace and adore him the way the LFC fans did. The stupid boy has made the biggest mistake of his life, in my opinion. And I shan't have any sympathy for him. No player is bigger than our club. In the end he put too much importance in himself, and because of that, he's left every LFC fan with a bitter taste in their mouth. He was all set to go down as an Anfield legend, and over the course of the last four days, he has completely ruined that. Just sad really.

And now we move on...

Torres left for £50 million to Chelsea.

We bought in Luis Suarez for £22.8 million:

And then we also swooped in and got Andy Carroll for £35 million:

I'm so thankful that we managed to get these two. I think they more than fill the Torres shaped hole. I'm really really looking forward to seeing an incredibly formidable strike partnership struck up between these two. If anyone can get the best out of them, Kenny will. Whilst I am sad, hurt and angry about the Torres thing still, I am incredibly excited for our future. I think LFC are gonna finally get back to where they belong.

Will try and write a more coherent entry in a couple days. Here's hoping we win tomorrow night. And as for Sunday's match, which is now going to be a monster affair, if Torres does make his debut against us in it, I hope Carra and the boys shut him out of the game completely. Oh and that Suarez gets a hatrick. Not too much to ask for, right? Lol.

(and just as an after thought...whoever would have thought my first match at Anfield would be Torres' last in a Liverpool shirt - feel oddly like I've got some weird spot in history now, lolol)
