"I'm playing in the U.S. Open and I'm going to win."

Nothing ruins a day like finding out your favorite athlete has to have season ending surgery. Well, I guess that's not true. You could find out a lot worse things, but still. On this particular day I received the news that Tiger Woods requires reconstructive knee surgery.

Honestly, the man won something like twelve tournaments in the past year on a knee that had a torn ACL. To top that off, he found out two weeks ago he had two hairline fractures to his left tibia. The same leg he had surgery on in April has all these effing things wrong with it and he STILL won the 108th US Open at Torrey Pines.

I'm convinced now that Tiger is, in fact, an alien from outer space. That's the only thing he could do to make himself cooler, honestly. No normal person suffers through that much pain after doctors tell them to stay off their leg for six weeks in order for fractures to heal. You want to know what he told the doctors? Hold on, I'll get you the quote.

"Tiger looked the guy in the eye and said, 'I'm playing in the U.S. Open and I'm going to win.' Then he started putting on his shoes and told me we're going to go practice. It's just incredible." -- Hank Haney, Tiger's swing coach and friend

"I'm playing in the U.S. Open and I'm going to win." That's the key phrase here, ladies and gents. He won a major championship on sheer will and spite. He did it because he wanted to and no one, not even a doctor who was looking out for Tiger's own well being, was going to tell him otherwise.

This is why I love watching the man. He's a marvel. I wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to watching him beat the crap out of the competition in his first tournament back.
