TITLE: Seconds After

"Andi and I are getting married," he told her once, many years before.
Her vision blurred and her whole world swam, but she told him it was great news, and then she kept talking and talking as though the silence would kill her.
"Andi is pregnant," he says now, holding up two fingers. "Twins."
Maybe she's still afraid of the silence, but her shock stops her from finding the words. So she sits and gulps in the quiet air between them, like she's drowning in it.
This time she knows she'll have to save herself.
She knows he never will.
