Last Wednesday, the sun was splitting the proverbial stones, and I'd hauled myself out of the flat to run a couple of errands in Wilton shopping Centre. From there, I felt inspired to keep on going, and I went through Bishopstown, along Curraheen Road, over the flyover to Curraheen itself, and thence to my semi-usual route to Killumney. Back via Ballincollig, which seems to be finished with its endless roadworks at last. Very pleasant, though not very sensible to have gone out without having eaten, and having neglected to even have brought a drink.
Back out again yesterday, forcing myself to make use of the tail end of the "weather window". Already quite a bit cooler, especially as by the time I got moving, there was a fresh breeze from the west, and some dark clouds were hanging in front of the sun, in an otherwise largely clear sky. This time I went out the bypass, tuned off to Curraheen, Killumney, and stopped off at the regional park by the weir to have the drink and banana I'd thought to bring this time. Went back the first stretch of the Lee Valley road, but though better of the part after the Angler's Rest, as it was getting decidedly dark. By that token, wasn't much looking forward to the bend on the main road between there and the straight, lit section, which for a long time has been unpleasantly dark and cold-sweat-inducing section at night. But what I hadn't noticed, even having been down it as recently as the previous trip, is that ithere are now streetlights along the whole stretch. Ingenious plan!
