Answer to

jezunya's Christmas in July challenge which was:

"Merry Christmas, Pepper!"

"...It's July, Tony."

"So?"

So
jezunya, I lay the blame for this entirely at your door!
(in other news, can anyone tell I'm on holiday? 8D)

Pepper doesn't look up when Tony strolls into her office, which is why she is slightly surprised when he drops a brightly wrapped package onto the desk in front of her.

It's red and gold and has an Iron Man mask motif. All over it.

"I had it custom made. Just came in today," Tony says proudly to her horrified face. Numb, she just keeps staring at it. Tony frowns slightly and nudges it towards her.

"Merry Christmas Pepper!"

There's a little sprig of holly tucked into the bow, very likely an afterthought and a generally feeble attempt at making the 'Christmas gift' actually look Christmassy. It's probably just her imagination that the holly looks slightly embarrassed to be there. She finally regains her voice.

"...It's July, Tony."

"So?" He shrugs, typically unconcerned.

"So just what is this?" She gingerly lifts off the lid. The style certainly says santa-suit. It's red, and there are white fur trimmings. And two pom-poms. She lifts it out and sees that it's a dress, cut low at the bust and scandalously high at the hem. It doesn't even look like it could clothe her right leg decently. No, Santa would never have been able to wear this, despite what the large black belt around the waist is trying to claim. Tony seems to be completely unaware of how completely unimpressed she is.

"You should wear it around the office today!" She looks at him blandly. Just in case he didn't see the overwhelming lack of enthusiasm in her face the first time.

"It's festive!" he adds helpfully.

“And just what makes you think it is appropriate?” she asks, a dangerous note in her voice.

“Well, you couldn’t wear it if it was actually Christmas, now could you?” is his irrepressible answer. "It'd be entirely too cold."

She spots a pair of black, glossy, knee-high stiletto boots at the bottom of the box. Her gaze lingers meaningfully on the two gleaming points. Tony realises what she's looking at.

"I'll just be in my office if you feel like popping by to, you know, show me anything," he says, and beats a hasty retreat.

Rhodes pops in after lunch and sees the gift, still sitting on her desk.

"Man, you know, Tony shouldn't be allowed to get away with pulling stunts like this," he says disgustedly, having peeked under the lid.

She shrugs and smiles ruefully, "You know Tony. It's not like you can stop him."

"I wonder..." Rhodes looks thoughtful. Pepper feels slightly uneasy.

"James-"

"No, seriously, Pepper," he interrupts her. "You shouldn't have to put up with this!" He's working himself up and what Pepper doesn't say is that it's not easy to stop Rhodes either, when he gets a firm idea into his head.

"It's all right, James, really. I knew what I was signing up for when I started working for him," she tells him instead.

"Someone should give him a taste of his own medicine," he says, not listening to her, eyes lighting up and nodding to himself as he turns towards the door. Oh dear, she thinks. She should stop him before he does something they'll both regret. She rises from her chair to try and grab his wrist before he leaves her office.

"See ya, Pepper," he calls as he strides out the door.

"James, no-"

She's too late, and the door closes behind him.

Oh dear, she thinks again. This is not going to end well.

The next day is the consultation with the military that Rhodes had come in the day before to remind Tony about.

Tony is still late. Not that this surprises anyone. Pepper checks her watch again.

"GOOD MORNING, GENTLEMEN."

The door bursts open to reveal Tony, wearing nothing but a Santa hat, a strategically-placed sprig of mistletoe and a beaming smile.

"Oh my God," Rhodes says faintly.

There is a strangled noise from one of the other men in the room. Pepper doesn't look to see who it is. Never taking her eyes off Tony (honestly speaking, she probably couldn't if she tried) she slides a hand down, reaching for her left ankle.

She has very good aim, two very sharp shoes, and she knows exactly which two men to use them on.

End.

Ho ho ho? 8D
